The clock continues to tick closer to August 2nd's debt ceiling deadline and the GOP is holding firm on their "My Way or the Highway" approach to tax hikes. So if a deal is not reached in time, how severe will the repercussions be for you and me?

1. The one thing we learn from history is that we don't learn anything from history.

2. absolutely Thom
Obama is too young to remember Jimmy Carter but if he thinks these people are playing he's sadly mistaken. He thought he had reached Boehner but the speaker's no.1 priority is his position. For Obama to come out today to scare seniors, vets and the disabled saying that they might not get their checks if the government defaults sounds like the ranting of a desperate president. He has confused the people who supported him by doing this and may even have lost them.

5. No, Obama is not too young to remember Carter.
I am one year older than Obama and I remember Carter very well and I wasn't into politics.

6. He has to wake people up, get their attention
They may not only get their checks late, but get their 401K cut down to a 101K.
People have to know there will be consequences, even if they do get their checks.
US credit downgrade making interest rates go up on existing US debt, bringing billions in new debt. Personal, c card, mortgage rates and bank loans will all go up if you can get one. It's not scare tactics but only some of the reality of not passing debt ceiling. JUST to protect their rich contributors.

4. It's really not rocket science.
Dealing with the republicans on the other hand, that is rocket science.
