Protestors with signs. Not the same thing as general public booing him away. It's protestors who are apparently following him around, booing him.

the protesters not part of the general public? I protest and I am a private citizen of my state.

53. No need for that Faux news comment.
I think Honeycombe8 was just pointing out a reality. There is a significant difference, still good though, in getting booed away from attending a protest, or getting booed away from...let's say....a Knights of Columbus family picnic. I can guarantee the Knights of Columbus one would get national attention.

23. My take is that it would have been more exicting if the protest was spontaneous
rather than a planned protest demonstration. At least speaking for myself, that would have given me more hope or excitement if you will. This isn't to disparage activists! It's only to say, wouldn't it be something if people enmasse, spontaneously expressed their contempt without advanced organizing.

A distinction that has just a bit more weight to it.

that's all..

27. Democrats getting organized?
Come on. If I knew that the OH's governor, Kasich, were to be at a state park after he proposed opening up state parks to natural gas exploration I'd protest the SOB also. I don't need anyone to tell me who to hate and who to look up to.

After some of the posts here, I will be making up protest signs and leaving them in my car, for just such occasions. I'll look forward to your posts after I sign in with my tales as the OP did.

I traveled over 2 hours to get to this protest, I live in Wisconsin and I arrived at 0730 this morning and I can assure you that the people I spoke to were local residence that have had enough of walker’s shenanigans. They were respectable of the speakers and loud when they had to be. Well organized protest and Walker was rushed away without a smile on his face!

42. The protesters are not
the general public? Then who the hell are they? The effectiveness of spontaneous demonstrations by a mob usually turns violent and would just these bastards an excuse to become violent. It will take peaceful, organized, coordinated and consistent pressure to defeat the conservative fascist movement.

7. Report from the Progressive Magazine
Walker Booed at Devil’s Lake
By Matthew Rothschild, June 25, 2011

Wis. Gov. Scott Walker came to Devil’s Lake State Park Saturday morning for a ceremony honoring the centennial of the park, but he found more protesters there than well-wishers.

An hour before Walker spoke, about 80 protesters gathered at the entrance of the park and walked in a procession that was led by two of the organizers, Sue and Tom Holmes, Sue was carrying an American flag and Tom the Wisconsin state flag.

Another organizer, Gail Lamberty, told the group at the outset: “We are here to deliver a message: This is our Wisconsin, and Devil’s Lake State Park is very, very dear to our heart.”

Edited on Sat Jun-25-11 07:06 PM by Yon_Yonson
Inside the area where Walker was speaking I was told there were about 60 people. I was walking the perimeter of the enclosed area so I did not do a head count (there was two rows of picnic tables seperating us from them). I was also told the about half of them were park employees who very present for the 100 years celebration of Devil Lakes State Park. Another person mentioned that Walker had invited himself but I have no verification of that though.

24. Walker is a walking pile of petrid...
-

...and rancid pickle juice.

First he lowers taxes on rich people.

And then, he sticks it to the poor.

That being said, we do have one problem with teacher unions and that is tenure. If anyone gets the chance, see "Waiting for Superman". It's not a perfect film (for example, the question of testing accuracy is never really adequately addressed), but it does raise some interesting questions about automatic tenureship.

FROM: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waiting_for_%22Superman%22

" ...Of note is the number of conservative critics who have praised the film, despite the director's progressive liberal stance. Joe Morgenstern, writing for The Wall Street Journal, gave the movie a positive review saying, 'when the future of public education is being debated with unprecedented intensity' the film 'makes an invaluable addition to the debate.

<...>

"Author and academic Rick Ayers lambasted the accuracy of the film, describing it as 'a slick marketing piece full of half-truths and distortions.' In Ayers' view, the 'corporate powerhouses and the ideological opponents of all things public" have employed the film to 'break the teacher's unions and to privatize education", while driving teachers' wages even lower and running "schools like little corporations.' The film does, however, note that since 1971, inflation-adjusted per-student spending has more than doubled, 'from $4,300 to more than $9,000 per student,' but that over the same period, test scores have 'flatlined... "

Dave (and Caty)

P.S. don't even get us started on Police Unions in general and their hardline stance against citizen oversight review of police brutality cases.

29. Walkers Security
I think somebody screwed up on his security because we got awful close, to close from my military security experience. I was so close to his right wheel of his black SUV I could have touched it. Instead I gave him the ‘royal middle finger salute’.

When he was leaving he had to walk thru the protestors who had gather around his black SUV and one State Patrol unmarked car. I saw one Wackennut goon with the sorry for an excuse governor and one driving the SUV. There was two uniformed State Patrol Officers in the lead car.

at least he didn't resort to tactics used by his henchman Prosser, and attempt to strangle the nearest female detractor. Nevertheless with displays of public sentiment such as this he shouldn't be too surprised when his recall results are tabulated.
