Why...Aren't corporate CEOs in jail?
Americans opposed TARP - yet TARP passed
Americans opposed extending Bush tax cuts for millionaires and billionaires - yet tax cut extensions passed
Americans oppose the foreign wars - yet foreign wars continue
Americans oppose oil subsides - yet oil subsidies continue
Americans support making corporations pay their fair share
Americans support unemployment insurance and food assistance
Americans oppose cuts to SS & Medicare
It's not Republicans, It's not Democrats
It's because of the Money Party w/Michael Collins

1. The funny part is that grass roots Dems and Repubs actually believe their parties
care about them.

However, once the door to the conference room is closed, both parties pat themselves on the back and joke about "those fools."

2. Thom is still optimist
that Obama might stand up against the influence of Wall Street but for the life of me I can't imagine why. One look at his economic advisors, "bipartisan" negotiating skills in which he gives the Repukes everything they want and more and his willingness to compromise on even the most fundamental democratic values shows that he is definitely a member of the Money Party first and a member of the democratic party only marginally at best. The only hope for the Democratic party and small d democratic values left at this point is for grassroots progressive organizations and unions to come together and throw all of their resources and support behind a progressive/liberal Democrat primary challenger or to draft an Independent liberal (like Bernie Sanders) to run for president for 2012. To continue to support Obama when he does not support the middle/working class, unions, GLBT, environmental issues, Medicare and SS fully and completely without equivocation is a waste of time when we face such a grave threat from RW extremists. We are facing the danger of death by incrementalism and inaction if we "stay the course" with Obama vs. death by going over a cliff with an R president. Either way is death. At least if Obama were to face a strong challenge from the left (like FDR did in the 1930's) it could change the course of the conversation and force him to actually shift to the left (something that no amount of begging, pleading, urging, cajoling or petitioning thus far has managed to do). Imagine all of the progressive organizations and unions united together with a populist platform like FDR's second bill of right's, restoring Glass-Steagle and Fair Trade and Green Jobs instead of race to the bottom Free Trade. Using the power of the internet as an organizing tool it would be a power to reckon with.
