Republican Presidential candidates, Mitt Romney, made a campaign stop in Livonia today, visiting with patrons at Senate Coney Island. Greeting him were about 100 mostly union protesters to remind him of his lack of support for the auto industry when it was on its last legs.
Ten-year-old, Lizmary Fernandez came out to the event with her dad, a UAW member. Lizmary came out because she does not want Romney to run and because she wants a President that supports the automobile workers. “He said to shut it down,” Lizmary told The Rochester Citizen.
In 2008, Romney wrote an Op-Ed in the New York Times titled Let Detroit Go Bankrupt where he stated, “IF General Motors, Ford and Chrysler get the bailout that their chief executives asked for yesterday, you can kiss the American automotive industry goodbye. It won’t go overnight, but its demise will be virtually guaranteed.”
