1. Among Japan's and even Joplin Mo's problems is

where to toss the trash.

Wichita Falls, Tx. had just purchased land for a new land fill (read trash dump) that was expected to be used for 10 years. Then the 1979 tornado that took out 20% of the city and the land fill was filled.

Sadly there was no attempt to recycle things like copper and lead, but by in large the clearing away process was accomplished within probably a month, allowing rebuilding to begin quickly.

Japan obviously has a huge problem of trash removal, recycling and the cost of doing that as where to put so much rubble.
