3. Too many women of color in that commercial

Skin cancer is the one area in which racial discrimination is a given. But it discriminates against pale people whose ancestors came from high latitudes where the sun is much less intense. In order to get the vitamin D necessary to survive, humans adapted by getting rid of the melanin so they could soak up the sun. Having a multi-ethnic commercial gives the wrong message, that everyone needs to apply skin care products before they go out into the sun. It sounds motivated more by capitalism, that everyone buy a skin care product, than it is by public health concerns.

Instead of a color blind consumerist message, they need to have a color aware public health message. Tell the very fair redheaded people who burn easily to protect themselves from the sun. And they also need to tell the very, very dark to take vitamin D supplements if they live where there are long snowy winters.
