Ok, it's not exactly 100% political, but I still want to share. I thought this was really cool. It's a treatment for stuttering where they put a tiny device in your ear that immediately plays back anything you say. It tricks the brain into thinking you're talking along with other people, and it essentially stops the stuttering. It's amazing watching him speak before and after it's put in his ear.

3. Brilliant!
A simple idea that can save people from a lifetime of misery.

I hope it tests well over time. I wonder if there will be an habituation effect with the brain just blocking out the input after deciding it is his own voice.

We can post whatever we want here on Democratic Underground? I have killer surf videos that I think y'all might enjoy. Maybe I should post some videos of the local elementary schools production of "Peter and the Wolf"? You know? Just random shit.

7. there's a forum called "The Lounge"
you'd be amazed at what you find in there!

There are other "groups" dedicated from everything from Anthropology to Languages to Sports to Music, Health, etc... you're interested in it, and there's probably somebody on DU who is, too. Hell, we even have a "gun" forum - but it's not for the faint at heart.

Welcome to DU!

:hi:

(Oh - you may NOT post racist or sexist sh*t or anything anti-gay or basically any pro-rw drivel... we DO have our limits, you know!)

5. What a wonderful discovery
I work with a man who stutters. It can get really bad some days and you tend to feel very badly for him - some people will complete his sentences for him, which I think is the wrong thing to do. Such a simple solution, really.

Excellent!

9. Years ago in college my hubby and I learned about 'time looping,' to tease our perceptions.
At least I thought it was called time looping. An electronic recording will play the voice back faster than one would hear it organically. We were doing it for laughs.

We found ourselves trying to lengthen our words to match the recording and finally gave it up. We were amazed at how our brains distorted our speech to match.

Glad to see it's being put to a practical use instead of a gag. I'm going to share this video with people that I know, to help some of their patients. Thanks for bringing this here.

14. Wow, that's amazing.
I think once the stuttering cycle is broken, they may be able to do without the ear piece.
