Everyone one of these Cops should go to jail.

Houston's mayor said Thursday that the release of a video showing several Houston police officers last March allegedly kicking, punching and stomping on a handcuffed teenager could jeopardize the prosecution of four officers in the case.

"We don't want to do anything to jeopardize the prosecution of these police officers," Mayor Annise Parker said Thursday, following a weather news conference at Houston TranStar, the local emergency management center. She said the video's release may cause the trials to be moved out of Harris County.

Parker said she was "shocked and disgusted" when she first viewed the tape last year.

1. K&R - everyone needs to see this. What did this teenager do in the first place?

I could not watch the entire video. But there is NO REASON IN THE WORLD to mistreat a person who has surrendered. These cops should be taken off the force, and this young man should sue the Houston Police Dept. for such a brutal attack.

46. Suspect in a burglary. But he was not tried and found guilty, yet he was beaten
and kicked like that by so many goons.

And he is just a kid--15 years old.

Cops dont get to go to town like that even on convicted adult burglars!

Assaulting an officer is a serious offense; when cops abuse their authority over the rest of us, they should be held to the same standard.

a prison sentence.

The cop behind the wheel that struck the man should also be charged with assault. Obviously he was trying to hit a man that 'might' have committed an act of burglary. Intentionally hitting the man is a worse crime than burglary, imo.

The guys kicking the man in the head should be charged with attempted murder.

14. But...but...the officers feared for their lives!
I posted yesterday a question asking why police officers feel it necessary to "punish" suspects who surrender.

And I received a post saying the officers felt their lives were in danger(?)

Right...
Suspect is running away from me -- I sense my life in danger;
Suspect is lying on the ground -- I sense my life in danger;
Suspect is face down with arms outstretched -- I sense my life in danger;
...therefore I must beat the snot out of him!

I simply don't follow this kind of logic...

The ones saying this is wrong all have so many negative hits they are hidden. All of them consistently.

The ones excusing this and even glorifying it are in the highest rated.

Yet out of 6000 people who watched this, only 16 voted on the video itself.

Sorry but it is a fact of life. They are natural bullies. It is that simple. Unless they are supervised continuously this will always happen.

I've been attacked physically by cops. While protesting the first Gulf war nonviolently, cops attacked me from behind and beat me. They knew they would get away with it. They didn't arrest me. They just beat me.

52. It's like any other influence from leadership .... when Establishment and higher-ups remain racist,
sexist and homophobic -- exploiters -- then the people they hire will do their

dirty work.

When they assassinated JFK in Dallas - 50% of the police force were KKK --

When they assassinated Bobby in LA -- 50% ofthe police force were John Birchers --

Today, we understand how racial profiling was put in place and used for decades

before there was even any publicity about it --

We also understand how police are being used to destroy civil rights of citizens --

as they are being told to look with suspicion on anyone who mentions The Constitution!

Certainly the Drug War is part of this attack on civil rights -- and not only in our

own country.

However, we must begin to hold these cops responsible for their crimes -- and can't

help but noting that the "Chief"/? seems to be a man of color while the offenders

seem to be all white -- so there is no color line when men are hired to carry out

filthy deeds for higher ups. If individually they have to pay a high price for these

crimes, they would no longer take on these jobs.

41. K&R...but what do you expect?
Clearly the cops have lost their fundamental respect for human life and need to be imprisoned and barred from EVER again wearing a badge or working in law enforcement....but what do you expect in this country now?

Wall Street criminals and banksters steal and defraud people out of BILLIONS and then take TRILLIONS in loans and guarantees, yet how many are in prison right now for this?

Clarence Thomas evades income taxes - the VERY SAME THING THAT ONCE BROUGHT LOW AL FUCKING CAPONE FOR CHRIST'S SAKE - and yet there is not even an indictment handed down? No scandal or even discomforting questions from the press???

The cops are dirty, the judges are dirty, the politicians have ALWAYS been dirty but now are down-right filthy in campaign money and look-the-other-way back scratching as a result.

We were once founded as a nation with a unique foundational understanding - one man, one vote and ALL with equal protection under law not kings. When laws no longer apply to the criminals flaunting them or the law enforcers who become criminals themselves, then we have lost and the grand experiment is over. It has failed and the longer we pretend it has not, the more scenes like this we will endure.

Make your choice - rationalize it as out of control "few bad apples" or accept it as symptomatic of core rot within our failed monetary-infested system.

Anyone who is shocked by this doesn't know the police. It's that simple.

WAKE-THE-FUCK-UP!

P-O-L-I-C-E S-T-A-T-E.

That's how you spell it and that's what we're living in.

- And it's been this way for a loooong time. But they tore away the facade when they passed the Patriot Act. Ever since them your so-called "rights" have been flushed down the gurgler......

In the Bill of Rights of the United States, there is an attempt to secure certain freedoms and protections by way of mere text on paper. Now while I understand the value of this document and the temporal brilliance of it in the context of the period of its creation, that does not excuse the fact that it is a product of social inefficiency and nothing more. Declarations of laws and rights are actually an acknowledgment of the failures of the social design. There is no such thing as 'rights' - as the reference can be altered at will. The fourth amendment is an attempt to protect against state power abuse, that is clear. But it avoids the real issue, and that is: Why would the state have an interest to search and seize to begin with? How do you remove the mechanisms that generate such behavior? We need to focus on the real cause. ~ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yPmHaTirnCc">Peter Joseph

56. training and recruitment
The real problem with policing, everywhere, including here in Canada, is training and recruitment.
In Canada, our police tend to recruit from sports camp. The end result is we get jocks and bullies signing up to become police.
When it comes to training, they're turned out on the streets with, in most cases, about six month's training. That's just not enough.
A person should have a least a BA in criminology, social work, psychology, sociology, or some related field, or at least two years experience working in either the social services field, or some practical field related to policing, before even being considered for policing.
What's more, there should be stringent psychological testing of all policing candidates to insure the candidates possess the mental strength to make good policemen and women!
What we have now is a bunch of jocks and jockettes who get themselves all pumped up, psyched up, and stressed, then go out there in the streets full of adrenalin! The end result, is people get beat up, or tazed, or shot! Its just plumb bad policing, and it seems to be endemic across North America!
