2:43 p.m. Video of police and protester confrontation

Raw video from the Daily News Egypt captures a confrontation Saturday morning between Egyptian police and protesters off Tahrir Square in Cairo. According to the English-language Daily News:

Police fired shotguns into the air to announce their presence, following a night of massive civil unrest in Cairo. A group of protesters moved towards them from Tahrir Square. Three Egyptian military armored vehicles moved in to obstruct police fire, seemingly to protect protesters. The following raw footage shows what happened next.

1. It seems as if they were just trying to avoid bloodshed, not protect
any particular group.

That's the way I saw it.

6. My take, also. The military kept cool heads & handled the situation well.

2. Army soldiers clearly trying to keep the people away from the police

the last minute shows a soldier with arms open trying to corral the people away from a threat (the police). The last 30 seconds shows a soldier in a passive stance sort of between one guy and the police.

Good for them. Well done.

3. Our military would have been running over us. That guy shooting
the film did a good job.

4. Amazing, but I remember Tienanmen Square in the beginning
the soldiers were hugging the civilians...then they brought in new guys....and things changed drastically

5. Amazing, they just separated people
and they are still functioning on Russian doctrine. Troops have little independence. Yes, russians run in groups of three.
