don't come from the mid-Atlantic or New England states...The 'real' contenders come from the mid-west and southwest..and even northwest (Gretchen Carlson who is from Minnesota)...States like Oklahoma do very well in these competitions...Oklahoma has numerous Miss America wins and runners up.

The more ignorant the better they do.

Someone should study regionalism in the US and how it impacts on the culture of gender and competitions such as this. Don't really want to point the finger at the southwest; however, I grew up there..I've seen how this kind of sexism thrives in that part of the world...The southeastern US is similar.

Just because I say pageant participants are stupid, and it just happens that they're all women, is in absolutely no way saying "women are stupid" or "they're stupid because they're women".

Get real.

And a person's platform has absolutely no correlation to their intelligence or intellectual comprehension of the world. To offer a few platforms up as proof that no pageant contestants are stupid is pure silliness. That kind of logic would never pass muster in a scientific journal. (caveat: I also know that my broadbrush indictment of all pageant participants also wouldn't pass muster, but mine was the crime of laziness in not being more specific, not an outright failure to think)

Those on the Right are paranoid about government. They're always accusing us of having too much faith in government, and they shake in their boots over their conspiracy theories. So a website comes along and exposes the very corruption they want to clean up, and they want to crucify the messenger.

The righties are more afraid of the expose's of the banks and secret Swiss bank accounts the rich have that might be exposed.

They also know, deep down, the truth, namely that their government has been lying to them and pulling all sorts of tricks and deals in foreign relations ever since the Eisenhower years, but more since Reagan, Bush I, and Bush II...and it makes the good ole USA "look bad".

I consider the Miss America thing very degrading and humiliating to women. But I suspect that your motivation for this is the former Miss South Carolina who actually wasn't picked to be Miss America. In the interview which she is famous for she was a deer in the headlights but she isn't an idiot. We are guilty of the same kind of prejudice that the right practices regularly if we assume that she is an idiot. She was a contestant on television show "The Amazing Race" and she showed very clearly that she was not the ditsy person we all assumed she was in her famous question response video.

Sometimes reasonable people get caught in unusual and uncomfortable situations. Are we to always make fun of that? I wish all of the contestants well and I appreciate that these young women are much more than the bathing suit meat that they are paraded around as. Our culture has forced them into a role that is unfortunate but I am not one to make fun of the victimized contestants themselves.
