1. Not willing to endanger myself
I avoid the early morning pushers and go later and if it is still there great
Got one pack of photo paper and missed out on the poinsettias this year

6. When did it get called "Black Friday"?
This is the 1st I've heard of anything called "Black Friday"..... except of course for this list from Wikipedia. (notice how almost all are disasters)

Black Friday is a term used to refer to certain events which occur on a Friday. It has been used in the following cases:
Black Friday (1688), imprisonment of the Seven Bishops (8 June), on the eve of the Glorious Revolution.<1>
Black Friday (1869), the Fisk-Gould Scandal (24 September), a financial crisis in the United States.
Black Friday (1881), the Eyemouth disaster: 189 fishermen died.
Haymarket affair (11 November 1887), four Chicago anarchists hanged, without evidence, for the deaths of seven police officers during a labor meeting.
Black Friday (1910), a campaign outside the British House of Commons (18 November) of the Women's Social and Political Union the Conciliation Bill which failed.
Black Friday (1919), the Battle of George Square (31 January), a riot stemming from industrial unrest in Glasgow, Scotland.
Black Friday (1921), the announcement of British transport union leaders (15 April) not to call for strike action against wage reductions for miners.
Black Friday (1939), a day of devastating bushfires (13 January) in Victoria, Australia, which killed 71 people.

7. For at least the last four years or so I've heard it.
My daughter tells me it is because it is the day that the stores count on to get them "in the black." :shrug: Maybe so. I haven't really been interested enough to go to snopes.com and check out her explanation.

It makes shopping that day even less appealing, doesn't it?

9. They called it Black Friday when I was working retail in 1995

According to Wikipedia it was first used in reference to the day after Thanksgiving in 1966 by police in Philadelphia for all the shopping mobs causing traffic jams and overcrowding the sidewalks.

The "getting into the black" explanation dates from the early 1980s.
