President Barack Obama will award the Medal of Honor on Tuesday to the
first living service member to receive it since the Vietnam War.

worth watching this video on his excitement when he got the call from President Obama:

Army Staff Sgt. from Iowa to receive Congregational Medal of Honor for his outstanding call to duty in Afghanistan. Salvatore Giunta exposed himself to intense enemy fire in an effort to save comrades and earned the honor for his "extraordinary bravery in battle".

2. K&R for the troops who risk their lives daily.
Whether we are for, or against war, the men and women are doing their jobs.

3. And
what job exactly is that? I am sick and tired of people trying to put emotions into something that is barbaric and so unnecessary. Besides, that kind of video belongs on Fox news or Rush Limbaugh sites and not over here in my humble opinion.

Oh, almost forgot - I happen to be a vet as well and I've seen what really goes on in the military. Nothing has changed since the time I've served - all smoke and mirrors with a lot of bullshit in between to draw in teary eyed masses.

He won the medal of honor? For what? For being in a country we have NO business being in? So go on and cheer and wave your flag but I'll just sit back with my amused smile on my face.

4. For one thing, this vet says you don't "win" the MOH...

it's not some kind of contest, one is awarded it, or it could be said that one "earns" it.

While I do not believe either of these wars are in our best interests or justified, the fact remains that we have people on the ground, and for those exemplary few that have been awarded this honor, or for all those who have performed heroic acts and should have been acknowledged but weren't, I hold great respect.

It is one thing to be against the war, it something else entirely to denigrate the actions of this individual. He went where he was sent, and performed an act of courage few of us could accomplish.

I'll have to read the Citation to see just what he actually did, but it's not my call to say it isn't deserved.

12. It's a great site.
It covers so many people and does it with a great sense of humor.

I highly suggest going through the list of badasses.

13. I read his account of the combat...
and I'm willing to bet, a few would like the wording on the Citation to read much like Norris portrayed it...:D

As for the site itself, I've been there once before but will revisit it and look around....:hi:

14. The author always goes over the top.
But I enjoy it because he talks about historical figures you don't hear much about and he well-balanced in figures, both men and women, from across the globe.

Enjoy!

6. Ok, I will.
The idea of putting down a soldier for personal reasons isn't my thing.

he gave. This man says he didn't deserve the medal and actually wished he wasn't awarded it as he didn't consider himself a hero. His motivation for his heroic act was that his unit had overheard (through an interpretor) on a radio that the Taliban fighting them had planned to capture one of his unit's soldiers alive so they could torture him. When they were ambushed on patrol a few days later and he saw that his best friend had been shot and was being carried away (still alive at that time) he lost it and charged the Taliban group rescuing his friend. Later at the field hospital his friend died despite their best efforts.

8. I can call him a hero. He IS a hero, even if
the nation and leaders that sent him there were not so heroic in sending him there!

I look forward to seeing a video of him with Obama.

He's quite a likable man.

9. I thought he was the last?
George Shubya awarded himselF the Medal of Honor right after exhonerating himself from the Deserter List and getting himself cleared by the DEA, the ATF, the CIA and the Palin Book of the Month Club!
