The Young Turks - Sept. 24, 2010: Cenk and Ben Mankiewicz show highlights of Stephen Colbert's Congressional testimony on migrant workers and point out how Republican Steve King and Fox News seem to have missed all the points he was making, deliberately or obliviously.

3. Have you ever noticed
that when republicans have nothing to back up their arguments they concentrate on some minutia, that they have to distort, to try to discredit the speaker? Stephen Colbert was doing obvious comedy when he was taking corn from someone else’s crate to put it his. Colbert was not speaking as a professional corn packer but King tries to shift all credibility to that one fact.

What Colbert said he was there to do was use his star power to get people to pay attention to this issue. The other serious point he made in his testimony was that with all the noise being made about jobs being taken away from Americans, none are taking up the open invitation to take jobs like farm labor.

5. he's playing to his base
it's like Ahmedinejad. Of course they're both ridiculous to everyone in the world, but their base back home loves them for it.

4. Colbert (& Stewart) are a fearless geniuses.
His testimony/performance is another brilliant example of free speech in action, and illustrates the awesome power of mockery and ridicule.

Yesterday I was reading the comments on another Colbert Testimony thread. A Tbagger was excoriating Colbert with angry passion. Someone replied, "Why do you have such a hard-on for Colbert?" The BagMan posted the Google video link of Colbert's stunning and historic speech at the 2006 White House Correspondents' Dinner.

Watch it or watch it again. I did.

Here is Colbert, inside the belly of the Beast, in their faces. Mockery. Ridicule. Don't miss his shout-out to Justice (sic) Scalia.

Fearlessness in the Fetid Face of Fascism.

Bravo Colbert. Keep Fear Alive.
Bravo Stewart. Restore Sanity.

Indeed.
