1. K&R for those people who have experienced what seems to be a big violation
of their rights. Keep us posted as to what is the progress of this event that will take place in a few weeks in Chicago.

There was one or two posters clearly intent on arguing down and obscuring the facts in this case. Our tax money work: beat them Hippies down then go on Progressive sites and ply the propaganda.

2. Guns drawn, FBI raids peace activist's apartment
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VihZt58Il-Y

As part of a sting against anti-war activists suspected of connections to terrorism, on September 24 the FBI raided six homes in Minneapolis-St. Paul and elsewhere in the country. At the Hard Times Cafe in the Cedar-Riverside neighborhood, we interviewed peace activist Mick Kelly while the FBI searched his apartment above the cafe.

7. This keeps happening over and over ...
...I am not sure WHY peace activists are targeted this way. While we decry some of the activities of our government, which is our right, we are into PEACE and we are into speaking our position PEACEFULLY. What is SO scary to our government about that?

I was part of the Sanctuary Movement in the 1980s. I stood with CHURCH PEOPLE, I walked hand in hand with all walks of life, with everyone from archbishops (Hunthausen who refused to pay his taxes because he said he did not believe his taxes should go for killing innocent people), Nicaraguans, ministers, teachers, engineers, Rabbies, Imams with church people fer Gawd's sake! Yet these people were accused of treason, acquitted yes, but trashed in the Press, maligned by our government, and no one of us so much as had a gun in our homes or advocated in any way anything but peace.

If you read a book published at the time called, Religion in the Secular City by Professor Harvey Cox from the Harvard School of Divinity, you will find that while discussing (OMG Da. Da. Daaaaaaaah!) Liberation Theology you will find that Jerry Falwell used the Liberation Theology method in his organization of his vast church empire, along with El Salvadorian peasants. As a matter of fact most mega-churches use the same method today.

But there is a great difference in how Falwell applied it vs the people in S America. It was a money making scheme with the Falwell crowd, while in S America it was about empowering the powerless.

And our government thought it was fine for Falwell to use this model to lie to congregations about the scriptures and what it meant as long as it was making huge amounts of money. But if this method gained a smidgen of power to the powerless who used this model to make it better for all instead of being horribly exploited by the rich, our government said, "Oh, let's call those people communists, go down there and kill babies, rape nuns and drop them from airplanes at 3000 feet, kill entire villages, assassinate archbishops who have the audacity to speak out about the injustices and support such a method (Romero), murder priests in their beds, kill Americans who witness what we are doing, and cause whatever mayhem we can because well, "those people' are communists, while Falwell is not. Falwell who was just as finger pointing to the churches standing up against this travesty in S America while using these methods himself.

the point here is that the government seems pretty hypocritical when it comes to protecting the rich and advocating violence. and then gets all scared of peaceful, god fearing people who actually listen to the teachings of their religion and speak out.

What is wrong with this picture and why are peaceful people who wouldn't hurt a fly, not even the ones who are trying to hurt them, why are they so scary to powerful people? I have never figured that part out. I have figured out that you can hold a gun to anyone's head and make them do anything but you may never convince them that it is right, while love seems to be the way to change a heart and once convinced it is right, no gun will stop them.

My 2 cents

16. Reading your post, I couldn't help but think about what happened to ACORN.
They were tried and convicted by the corporate media with the Congress; ripping up the Constitution in punishing them.

ACORN's true crime was in working to empower minorities and the poor via promoting democracy and community activism, I believe this came to be viewed as threat to the mega-wealthy, corporate supremacists and racists.

17. I think you are seeing the reality of the role of government
Governments are always about protecting what is and the money interests. I live in an old Catholic immigrant community and have seen priests stand up to ICE authorities many times and even physically block entrance to the sanctuary. They could do this because no one in power wanted to destroy the illusions of power by receiving a lot of publicity. They also had large numbers behind them in their congregations.
The illusion is not the reality. The power of the government is always used to suppress dissent of those who lack money power but not the wealthy. The Murdochs and Kochs have no fear of reprisal.
I suspect these raids are advance tactic to stop protests during the possible DNC convention in 2012.
The last things the Democrats want is thousands of protesters on the streets and the way to do this is to stop the people with organizational ability like Mick. Knowing Mick, the only way you can stop him is to kill him or incarcerate him.
It is important to for a mass resistance to this intimidation to develop now.

I guess the truth that's being hidden by Obama and Co. re: Bushiebaby is far worse than anyone thought.

BHO's continuing refusal to allow an investigation rather than a continuance of the cover-up only confirms this suspicion in my mind.

The rot goes all the way to the core. WTF do we do now?

39. "WTF do we do now?" .....
Great question --

The longer we wait the fewer the options we have, IMO --

I'd just pretty much decided to look at the next election as simply

voting AGAINST the Republicans -- not for Democrats.

Put so many Dems in that there could be no excuses anymore --

Move a lot more Republicans out -- they've gotten steadily more psychopathic --

Give us only one party to fight --

but -- I don't really know -- seems safer than having Repugs around -- ????

There are rarely questions here about what to actually do -- limited discussions.

We have to feel confident that we are all understanding this in the same way --

As Vaclav Havel said, we always have the "power of the powerless."

I'm in favor of united actions -- using corporate tools against them -- not using

credit cards -- things like that. Turning off lights for an hour at night.

Pulling our cars over for 10 or 15 minutes -- at a set time. Many ways to show

our unity -- as soon as we find it!! Are we united yet in understanding this fascism

that has crossed our threshold in America?

Or are we -- as Jim Garrison so ably stated it -- still "Hamlet" wandering and wondering?

Stay tuned...???

22. OK so what in the world had they done to authorize the
government to be able to get a search warrant. Here we have Palin, Beck, Bachmann, Rush, and the fox crew urging violence against people and the FBI and the secret service sit on their ass and let it happen. But these people's only crime was to protest war and want peace. SO should we all start yelling and screaming and wanting every one to be killed wanting to turn on gas lines so people will be killed, then maybe we will be over looked also. We never did find the culprits that turned that gas on and wanted to blow up a congress man's house. I suppose the FBI doesn't have time to go after real criminals.

26. Please see TC Indymedia for more
More info - I put together a video of the press conference. TC Indymedia is the main release for info about this situation. Protest scheduled at 4:30PM at FBI headquarters. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rrXZSfLUl9M&feature=player_embedded

TC Indymedia - The social justice community in Minneapolis continued to respond Friday afternoon to the raids of several of its members homes, which started before 7am this morning. Since then, a dozen activists have been served with grand jury subpoenas, including many in Minneapolis, according to Fight Back News.

More: http://tc.indymedia.org/2010/sep/updated-info-least-four-minneapolis-houses-raided-activists-subpoenaed-national-fbi-terror-
http://tc.indymedia.org/2010/sep/breaking-news-least-four-houses-minneapolis-raided-other-houses-michigan-nc-chicago-targete

It is believed the federal grand jury is centered in Chicago, and is investigating alleged ties to "foreign terrorist organizations"--a charge which activists have immediately dismissed as illegitimate and unjustified.
The Star Tribune reported earlier today that according to an FBI spokesperson, a total of six homes were raided in Minneapolis and two in Chicago. This statement is unconfirmed by activists, who have identified at least four of the homes in Minneapolis--one above Hard Times Cafe in Cedar-Riverside, one north of Powderhorn Park, one on Park Avenue near Lake Street and one in Stevens Square. Antiwar leaders have said that other members of the Freedom Road Socialist Organization were targeted with raids, surveillance and subpoenas in Michigan, North Carolina and potentially California.

...to be much more an instrument of the crooked elitist PTB who run this country than the honest federal investigative agency, presumably serving our citizenry, it is supposed to be.

We should circulate a well written letter/petition stating that we no longer recognize the FBI's legitimacy since they obviously do not work for us, get a few hundred thousand signatures, and send it to them in the form of an open full page ad in as many major newspapers as we can afford.

These raids are about intimidation, nothing else. What a bunch of jack-boot thugs.

32. So how are the investigations against Blackwater and all their sub-businesses coming along?
Now, could they be called terrorists? They certainly are to the people of Iraq.

We are being shown that there are several branches of government. The Executive is one of them. The Military is another? The FBI is another? I don't remember it working that way? Are they allowed to act independently of the President? Did Obama know about this? Does he get a daily report on actions against citizens? How does it all work? Doesn't anyone oversee the FBI?

I really don't know and I feel that I am going to get educated here, because I'm curious about why this happened and who approved it.
