Rabbi Saperstein is the Executive Director of The Union for Reform Judaism (URJ)

The full joint statement he mentions and links to the other speeches and the full press conference on C-Span are here: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=385x502867

2. Thank you Rabbi Saperstein.
After today on DU, it was a more a little disheartening to see people here feel the need to all but support the bigots planning to burn the Quran.

It's been like the Twilight Zone here over the past 24 hours. It has been extremely tiring and it is really refreshing to come across these powerful voices of positivity fighting against the bigotry, ignorance, hate and fear.

4. It is. People of conscience and high morals. I wish there were
more of them. But looking around, and maybe this place is not representative of the country, but if it is, and this is the 'left' (I don't have the courage anymore to look at what is going on on rightwing boards) there doesn't seem to be much hope sometimes.

But thank you for posting these. It definitely lifts the spirit to know that there are still those unwilling to take any excuses for bigotry. I would have thought that would be the position of all democrats at least.

5. I must have missed those threads
Were there actually people on DU supporting the "Burn the Quran Day" today?

I was listening to the Rush Limbaugh show today. It was actually not Rush, but a guest host, and the whole time I was listening, there was nothing but focus on how it is the Preachers right of free speech and how we should not be treating the Muslim religion any differently. He fell short of saying that he wished that he was there to join in on the fun. Sure, he mentioned that he condemned the actual burning, but it was said almost like an afterthought and in passing. You heard very little about how the action itself should be condemned. Why? Because the right wing talk show hosts suppor this action.

The democratic party really should point out that the Burn a Quran day really is an event that is unofficially supported by the Republican Party. If you have a party that does nothing but incite Anti-Muslim hatred for two years straight to get people like this Teabagger preacher to hold events like this and does not take any public position against it, nor do any politicians speak out against it nor do any right wing talk show hosts speak out against it, nor do any church leaders speak out against it , then they own it.

6. Yes, all over a certain forum
Not sure if I can mention exactly which one without breaking the rules but let's say it's the one where a lot of people hear about these stories first.
