11. What can he do besides speak out against it. Republican filibusters keep majority from legislating

21. If I'm correct, there are ways to abolish the filibuster in the Senate.

I think they were called the "nuclear option" because it would mean all out war between Democrats and Republicans in the Senate. But as I recall it could actually be done, end filibusters by the right procedural moves.

So why doesn't he do that?

Why don't Democrats in the Senate do that?

Why does the president sit there and say I was going to prevent a GOP takeover, but the GOP wouldn't let me do that?

I'll tell you why.

Because war is wrong.

Nuclear war is wrong.

The GOP might get mad at us.

We have to be good little boys and sit in the corner and we won't bother anybody!

Let the GOP take over.

It's only the planet they plan to destroy.

4. Term Limits or Public Financing
Dear President Obama,

A cinema example of how disparate the country feels is analogous to the Star Wars scene where Princess Leia asks through a hologram “Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi; you're my only hope”. How can I send that same message: Help Us Obama?

The confluence of the Supreme Court Citizens United ruling allowing unlimited political speech through corporations and (foreign countries through their US based entities) and a broken political party evidenced by a party of obstruction and a spineless party lead me to echo: Help us Obama, you’re our only hope…because You are the Only voice that can carry this message:

If Term Limits are good for the President, they should be good for the Senate and Congress. The founding fathers understood and feared a President King and that was why they term limited the position. Clearly they never thought of Senator Prince or Congressman Duke. I suspect the reason was family and money. Those serving as Senators and Congressmen ‘Wanted’ to not run again because they ‘Needed’ to go back home to work, manage personal property and affairs.

Until our representatives are faced with lame duck status, they will be under the influence of money. Am I suggesting their “representative” votes and decisions are bought? YES! I see few instances to suggest otherwise. Absent Term Limits, then public finanicing for elections is the next best hope.

I hope this year’s lame duck session will prove me right: that the end of our rare majority in both houses allows my Democratic Party to grow a spine and do more heavy lifting before the 2011 term begins.

I am thoroughly proud of the accomplishments and the angst I feel is pending gridlock following November.

By the way: Recess appoint Elizabeth Warren.

5. I would say O has been enabling the pugs and corporatists over the last year and a half.
Edited on Sat Aug-21-10 02:59 PM by ooglymoogly
Just one example;
If the war criminals and bankster criminals had been prosecuted as our own law and world law demands, we would not be facing this disaster today.

The republicans would have been thoroughly discredited and we would have an even larger majority in both houses as many pugs and Dino's were complicit in both war crimes and bankster theft; And they could not be so cavalier about stopping legislation good for this country.

In my opinion O is just returning to campaign mode rhetoric, as he has made no moves to enact any of the good stuff he has been grandstanding about oh so recently; In fact he has done just the opposite over the last year and a half.

the list is huge. We'd be in such a free fall with Palin McCain that we'd already be a Plutocracy.

18. and don't forget the SC.'s corporate majority would have gotten much worse.
So don't let a single issue blind you to all that has been accomplished even if it is just getting our foot in the door because the alternative would be a completely failed economy and a world war where Banks are king by putting everyone and all countries in debt to them...the oligarchy.

Things are much worse than we have been led to believe...we are very near losing our democracy to a corporatocracy, a plutocracy by a fascist oligarchy. The CIA chieftans and controllers are enslaving the world...Obama is one man...the world needs to hear the roar of the people and these corporations are trying to use misinformation and money to make that roar as convoluted and misguided as possible.

The money party takes a big blow any time republicans lose which even weakens the power of corporate dems.

25. Yet completed by "O".
The completion of which should have been shot dead upon his signing in ceremony; And the money returned to the treasury with thorough investigations begun with intent to prosecute. Banks taken over and reorganized so this could never happen again.

But hey whats a few trillion dollars of taxpayer money anyway when the obscene lifestyles of sought after pug cronies are threatened.

20. If war crimes and the treason of lying us into a war that has killed
Edited on Sat Aug-21-10 08:28 PM by ooglymoogly
over a million fellow travelers on this planet; And for What? money and power over others; If these criminals had been brought to trial, the scandal and the investigations and evidence would have decimated the pugs including the impeachment of * et al and the rest of the neocons still plaguing us today and will be tomorrow perfecting the greatest robbery known to man;

Common sense demands these vital prosecutions; Demanded by our own law and the laws of the world which we are signed onto; Prosecutions would have cleared the deck placing the blame where it belongs. Regaining our self respect and our rightful place in the world.

Letting the banks that were insolvent from gambling debts fail would have saved this country countless trillions of dollars and the Phoenix that would replace it would be one regulated to honesty and reality bereft of the quick buck of the shyster.

We do not even know the extent of this damage. Living in delusion that it has been all paid back does not add confidence to a bankrupted nation.

We are forgetting all those involved in these unforgivable criminal and treasonous acts and just how much of our treasury has been absconded with; As if it is nothing to fret about. That this Government is now eying the trillions of dollars in the folks of this countries retirement, is a clue to how desperate things have become

It is as if we are pretending the past 10 years never happened; And that is unforgivable. You have to ask yourself why are the major corporations raking in more money than any time in the history of the world and just how that came about and why it is still happening; while our country has become jobless and penniless. While we hear over and over how gargantuan the divide has become in the last 10 years between rich and poor; The real proof of how much has been stolen from us.

History and our grandchildren will never forgive us for this lazy careless and criminal behavior; For now we are excepting the blame for the entire cataclysm as if it has all been meaningless.

Meanwhile many of our people are starving as a direct result of this carnage and theft, placated by the smoothest propaganda while foundations are pulled from underneath them.

How lighthearted we are about what has been done to this country and how it has effected all of us, easily believing the clap trap fed to us.

We have lost our country to a bunch of greedy fucking hypocrites who go unpunished to continue the non stop raping and pillaging aided and abetted by our own government.

It is bullshit that this president has done anything close to pulling this country back from the abyss it is sinking into.

If he had valiantly tried, working his heart out, for the folks who put him in office and this country, we would know it; We would know it as sure as life itself; As we know, win or fail, Grayson is fighting for us and this country. It is very clear when folks are on our side, the side of the constitution, the side of this country, and all of us can point out those who are. It is not vague.

If he had done for us what he has done for corporate America, I would be the first in line applauding him; But it is all to clear that is not the case, that we are seeing nothing but kabuki theater with a bone now and then grandly offered as if it is the resurrection.

He has done the opposite while enabling corporations to continue the theft, and that is a provable statement; Proven many times by those paying attention, The most highly educated folks in the country, in blogs all over the internet, many here on this site.

8. Exactly. And that is where the problem lie
We need for him and our administration to stop the people that are making this law and a number of other things happen. He already knows that he has the people's support. We told him so by electing him president. What he needs to do is stop asking for everybody to like him and actually do the things that we elected him to do. Stop asking for people to support you and even telling us what the problem is. We know what it is, we want him to stop the bad guys. The people did not elect him to get every single politician to sing Kumbaya and hold hands. If he tries for the Kumbaya moments, you bet people will complain. If he accomplishes what we support him on, he becomes a hero and may even get re-elected.

because how can the GOP 'enable' the corporate takeover when the corporate takeover has already occured and been in existence since the gipper, or even before his regime, was around?

9. If I can make an analogy, what you are describing is similar to having your friend show up at
Edited on Sat Aug-21-10 05:41 PM by TheEuclideanOne
your front door asking if he can stay at your place and you say, "sure, pal, you can stay at my place. It will probably be good for me". What is happening now is that your friend is now moving into your house for good and even demanding that he sleep in your bedroom and you sleep on the couch, running up your phone bill by making constant international phone calls and refusing to pay his share of the rent or any of the bills.
