Water sources have been lost or contaminated in Mingora, leaving this population at risk of rapidly spreading diseases. MSF is now providing 200,000 liters of fresh water there every day.

1. Good to hear...
I lost my own doctor years ago to "Doctors Without Borders."
He said it was something that he "needed" to do.

3. Doctors Without Borders are true heroes, not the guys with
guns and bombs imho.

The area this was filmed in, the Swat Valley, was the scene of heavy fighting to drive out the Taleban several months ago. I read that because of the floods, the Pakistani military can no longer police the area and the Taleban is returning.

But if anything can win over the people there, it is this kind of humanitarian work. Great to see the people drinking clean water ...

4. You're so right, they truly are heroes
The only trouble is, if the Taliban were there they'd be in charge and I'm not sure if DWB would be able to continue their great work. Man, it's such a tangled web over there it's unreal.

Have you seen the *must see* Al Jazeera Documentaries about Pakistan's "War Within"?

If not, let me know and I post the links...

6. No, I have not seen the 'War Within' but would very much like to.
I agree that the Taleban probably would not allow DWB to operate there. But I also believe, and this is just my opinion since there is nothing to confirm it, that the course of events has been drastically changed, especially in the hardest hit areas like the Swat Valley. It's entirely possible that the Taleban themselves need those services, especially clean water and may realize that the same people have towards the government for not being there for them, would be directed at them were they to deny them services they themselves cannot provide.

But I could be wrong, it's so hard to imagine how this disaster has affected people and will continue to do so for a long time. I imagine the Taleban won't have the same kind of power over people they once had. Those who are providing assistance are most likely to win over the people ... at least I hope so.

I posted links to them in this OP...

Also towards the end of my list of "http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=5143493&mesg_id=5149520">20 Must See Documentaries with links to where you can watch them".

Very important background contained within and essential viewing for anyone who's interested in the situation in Pakistan, IMHO...
