1. Wouldn't that be...
....this post in Political Videos:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=385x486224

From less than four hours earlier?

Stuff scrolls off this board so fast I never even see it, and duplicate posts are a large reason why.

18. If you go out to sea where the concentrations are actually high there, yes
Where she is? No fucking way.

Where she took that video isn't even remotely close to being flammable.

6. All these people going to the beach with their kids and they're
dependent upon a local news station that happens to have taken upon itself to have the water tested.

This must be another example of that "small government" some people desire.

10. thank you News 5
and T2T. Have been wondering the toxicity of the water. The well might be capped by the danger is still in the water. BP doesn't give a damn if the water is hazardous to kids..obviously

13. Sorry Folks, this "report" is B.S.
So many things wrong with this "report" that it's sad.

- what's "normal" oil and grease?
- a reporter taking samples?
- samples collected in mason jars which already have oil and grease in them.
- a chemist doesn't know what concentration to expect.
- separation funnels explode all the time, he didn't vent it properly.
- this "test" determines concentration and not toxicity.
etc., etc., etc...

This report is meant to scare people.
I wish it was conducted properly.

20. The water coming underground from my town does NOT explode...
Edited on Mon Jul-19-10 03:08 PM by orbitalman
I am not a scientist. I do not know the qualifications of the discounters above or below.

Whether the samples collected were proper could be a valid question. However testing was done by qualified lab personnel. There are always questions about ANYTHING. But this definately shows a problem.

Edit: to include others

14. Gulf Coast tourism welcomes all Republicans
The water is safe for you. Here's your opportunity to show liberals how tough you really are.

No of course not! Just because you can't see it, doesn't mean it's not life threatening.

15. What chemical was added?
This vid looks like amateur chemistry. Not a chemist, but took a few classes. Why would you use allof the sample, not good science if none is left for a follow-up. Things happen, reagents can get spoiled by a number of different circumstances.

corexit is listed as ethylene glycol, basically that's anti-freeze. I'm sure there are a number of other additives. And a lot of reagents, acids, bases will cause explosions if added to water. The vid is interesting but doesn't explain anything.

We can now just fill our tanks with sea water and drive on for eternity!

17. Why the need for the shoddy journalism, the oil spill speaks for itself
This video looks great to the uneducated masses but anybody with any sort of scientific, engineering, or enivornmental background would realize the numerous flaws.

She came up with her 5ppm standard based on nothing but what the guy thinks it should be and then tests against that as if it's an EPA standard? How does a producer let that garbage through?
