2. Other countries have smaller economies because they have less developed systems of trust?
Edited on Mon Jul-12-10 03:01 AM by LiberalLovinLug
I know its your first post Smith00, but really?...so a business contract in Belgium or Lithuania has always been more trustfully unstable? And America is just now stooping as low as those smaller economies? Really......? At least thats what I got from your post.
And I'd like to read just how you think this connects to the clip.

Which brings me to that great synopsis by Cenk of what DUers have been upset, bewildered and fighting about for the last year. Why on god's green earth is a Democratic President not acting like one, ESPECIALLY on issues where he has the majority backing him up. Reminds me of the 70% figure that was behind some kind of public option in health insurance which was ignored, or at least not fought hard enough for.

Is the DC village THAT insular and the dreadfully misguided DLC THAT powerful and Obama THAT much of a sell-out and the Democratic Party THAT stupid?

I'm hoping that the answer is not yes to all four of those questions.

edit: ooooooooooooo I hate when that happens. Looks like I'm arguing with the invisible spaghetti monster.

5. Your question is why Obama is adopting these policies? Simple answer:
Advisors: Rahm Emmanuel, Larry Summers, Timothy Geithner

Nuff said.

65. The premise of the OP is BS
The massive, crushing federal debt is what will be the top issue of 2011. It is the elephant in the room, so to speak. Furthermore, doesn't doubling our exports in five years mean that there will be jobs on hand for people to increase productivity?

Knee-jerk hating on the President may be the common currency among many at DU, and I can assure you that I agree that there are many areas to find fault, but this sounds just like the vacuous claims of the teabaggers.

I'm perfectly within my rights to express my dislike of any supposed "media figure" I choose here. Especially one that voted for Reagan and then calls Obama more conservative than his hero.

63. The majority of people incorrectly pronounce the the c as "ch" instead of "j".
It's true that the second most common mispronunciation is "sink", but the first most is "chenk". So "cynk" would be pronounced "chink" to those people.

If she had written "Chunk" (taking a jab at his weight) it would've been just as childish but oh well. It's not a huge deal either way, just personal attacks with absolutely nothing to back it up.

How many times have you heard that statement?

I am unemployed, I am not sure how I am going to make it through the end of the month, if it werent for my mother helping me out right now I would be homeless.

18. good job Cenk
apparently more middle class voters are in the democratic party than the thugs. The GOP wants to destroy them and us. Why Obama wants to help them is incomprehensible. Kyl wants the 678B tax cut for the wealthy to continue with no worry about it being paid but extending unemployment relief? No that's gotta stop.

Extending the entire package of tax cuts would cost the US $2.2 trillion over the next 10 years. The Obama administration has argued in favor of allowing to expire at least the part of the tax cuts that applies to people earning over $250,000 a year. That portion is estimated to cost $678 billion over 10 years.

"Tell me, how are you going to pay that $678 billion to keep those Bush tax cuts for the wealthy?" Wallace asked Kyl.

"You should never raise taxes in order to cut taxes," Kyl said. "Surely Congress has the authority -- and it would be right -- if we decide we want to cut taxes to spur the economy, not to have to raise taxes in order to offset those costs. You do need to offset the cost of increased spending. And that’s what Republicans object to. But you should never have to offset the cost of a deliberate decision to reduce tax rates on Americans."

21. The Problem Is Republicans INCREASE Spending and DECREASE Revenue, producing massive debt
Edited on Mon Jul-12-10 09:59 AM by mikekohr
WHY DO REPUBLICAN ECONOMIC PRINCIPLES EXPAND THE NATIONAL DEBT?
-The answer is simple mathematics. Reduced revenue + increased spending ='s increased debt-

?

http://cedarcomm.com/~stevelm1/usdebt.htm

The two biggest promises of "Trickle Down Economics" are it's greatest failings. Proponents of "Trickle Down Economics” claim that tax cuts, skewed to the rich, will create jobs and increase tax revenues. The graph above disproves the latter claim. Job creation plummets under "Trickle Down Economics (see http://bureaucountydems.blogspot.com/p/job-growth.html )and nine of the last ten recessions have occurred under Republican leadership (see http://bureaucountydems.blogspot.com/p/history-of-recessions.html ).

Two things are certain to grow when a Republican is in the White House, unemployment and the National Debt.

By contrast, "Bubble Up" economnic priciples practiced by Democratic Administrations put people to work, rev up the economy, and balance the Nation's ledger books. Every time. No exceptions.

26. thanks Mike
for the excellent review and the links. Have lived thru supply side economics and seen it's devastation. Wikipedia also confirms it.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_debt_by_U.S._presidential_terms

The question is why do they do it and why don't their voters see it? Reagan was handed a national debt of 32% in his first term and ended with 43%. By his second it was up to 53%. At the end of GHW it was 66% of GDP. At the end of Clinton's it was at 56%, and GW had it back up to 83%. Yes that's not big government? With less jobs I might add!

That IS a GOP talking point, and as the polls show, it's a very low priority for Americans. What top economists not tied to right wing think tanks are arguing that now is the time to cut government spending, in the middle of deflation and a horrible recession?

And you're going to defend the president stacking the 'deficit commission' with 14 (out of 18) fiscal conservatives who want go gut social security?

He makes an executive decision to form this commission, puts a heavy load of asses against SS & Medicare upon it, and wonders why we're pissed at this action.

Our only hope, is that this is just a show. Regardless, it doesn't look good, regardless of what those who fully support his actions think.

Raise the bar for what you can earn and still get taxed for SS benefits, make it $200K, not raise the retirement age for SS benefits to 70! good heavens, this is wrong...

40. just to mention T Hartmann's double santa theory
where RW spends like crazy, passes consequence to Dem and then yells, blames, and sneers about the deficit. Remember Reagan said "deficits don't matter". I think Cenk is right-on for 97% of the time. That said, some will take it as validation not to vote or to vote 3rd party, which hurts everyone because the GOP wins in those cases consistently. Obama is playing bad chess just as Cenk said. What kind of person likes to piss everybody off all the time except their inner circle? I'm not a psychologist.
