1. I find it really odd that she's the only SCOTUS spouse we ever hear about.
The others seem to deliberately stay out of any spotlight. I can only WISH that Justice Thomas would have to resign because his wife is an idiot!

4. The Justices

Justice Ginsburg - her husband, Martin Ginsburg, died of complications from metastatic cancer on June 27, 2010 , she has two children: Jane Ginsburg and James Steven Ginsburg

Justice Sotomayor - On August 14, 1976, just after graduating from Princeton, Sotomayor married Kevin Edward Noonan, whom she had dated since high school, in a small chapel at St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York. She used the married name Sonia Sotomayor de Noonan. He became a biologist and a patent lawyer. .... SNIP .... She and Noonan divorced amicably in 1983; they did not have children.

Justice Roberts - Roberts married Jane Sullivan in Washington in 1996. She is an attorney, a Catholic, and a trustee (along with Clarence Thomas) at her alma mater, the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts. The couple adopted two children, John (Jack) and Josephine (Josie).

Justice Scalia - On September 10, 1960, Scalia married Maureen McCarthy, whom he met on a blind date while he was at Harvard Law School. Maureen Scalia had been an undergraduate at Radcliffe College when the two met, and subsequently obtained a degree in English from the school. The couple raised nine children, five boys and four girls.

Justice Kennedy - wife's name is Mary Davis. (Quite mysterious. There is nothing listed regarding his wife other than her name on Wikipedia.org no children names listed either) From McClatchyDC.com regarding his wife: Mary - a former teacher at Sacramento's Golden Empire Elementary School....

Justice Breyer - In 1967, he married Hon. Joanna Freda Hare, a psychologist and member of the British aristocracy (the youngest daughter of John Hare, 1st Viscount Blakenham). The Breyers have three adult children, Chloe (an Episcopal priest, and author of The Close), Nell, and Michael.

Justice Alito - Since 1985, Alito has been married to Martha-Ann Alito (born Martha-Ann Bomgardner), once a law librarian who met Alito due to his many trips to the library as a legal clerk;<9> she has family roots in Oklahoma. They have two college-age children: Philip and Laura. Alito resided with his family in West Caldwell, New Jersey before his Supreme Court nomination. He has since moved to a home in Washington D.C..

Justice Thomas - In 1971 Thomas married college sweetheart Kathy Grace Ambush. They had one child, Jamal Adeen. In 1981 they separated and in 1984 divorced. In 1987, Thomas married Virginia Lamp, a lobbyist, aide to Congressman Dick Armey, and subsequently an executive director at the conservative Heritage Foundation. In 1997, they took in Thomas' then six-year-old great nephew, Mark Martin, Jr., who had lived with his mother in Savannah public housing.

Soon to be Justice Kagan - has never married, no children

(Retired)Justice O'connor - On December 20, 1952, she married John Jay O'Connor (John J. O'Connor III) and they have three sons: Scott, Brian, and Jay. Her husband suffered from Alzheimer's disease for nearly twenty years prior to his death.... SNIP .... John O'Connor died on November 11, 2009, aged 79

(Retired) Justice Souter - has never married, no children

(Retired) Justice Stevens - married Elizabeth Jane Shereen in June 1942. Divorcing her in 1979, he married Maryan Mulholland Simon that December. He has four children: John Joseph (who died of cancer in 1996), Kathryn, Elizabeth and Susan.

13. I wasn't talking about not being able to find out info on the justices.
I was remarking that once on the Court, for the most part, their families & even their personal lives remail out of the spotlight. The only time their persoal lives seem to hit the news is if they are ill, or someone close to them like a spouse gets sick or dies. I thought it was an unwritten rule that they & their families keep very private lives. Apparently I was wrong, or Mrs. Thomas doesn't care!

16. Yes, I know what you originally meant....
but your comment peaked my interest in learning more about the other spouses so I went and took a little look.
Then I thought it would be nice for the other viewers of this thread to see a bit of what I read, so I posted it here.

As far as why we never have heard much about the spouses or even have heard much about the justices themselves (once they were seated) is because it 'was' always a tradition to stay out of the spotlight. Apparently that tradition has changed now with the likes of Ginni Thomas - it's a shame ;(

14. What are these "white" and "black" labels you use?
Has she no color at all? Does she disappear when standing before Tom Sawyer's fence?
Can even light not escape the gravity well of her husband?

Drop the racial bullshit, please. Leave that base level of discourse to the Freakers Freepers and the DeadStaters RedStaters. It's where that kind of thing belongs and, unfortunately, flourishes.

Clarence Thomas has been an irrelevant bag of judicial Jell-O since he joined the court. The color of his hide has nothing to do with anything, nor does hers. The fact that they're uuber neo-cons IS relevant. Discuss that, huh?

happens to be White.

I can certainly say that I have never heard Clarence Thomas being put down by anyone in my Race because of the color of her skin. We could care less who he married. We did care that he lied on Anita Hill.
We always care that he is on the wrong side of Justice!

And certainly, the Republicans could care less what color she is or he is ~ they know that they will both be puppets for the Teabaggers.

And ~ that is exactly why he will be on the Court until he wants to retire and spend all the millions that he/she get under the table.

2. Skinner, will you get the ads off the screen in front of the videos. Can't see Thomas' wife.
Whose brilliant advertising idea was it to cover the screen with advertising so you can't watch the videos on this site? Just pathetic.

10. Solution: Try using an ad blocking software, like AdBlock plus.
I see no ads on DU.

Depending upon your browser, you have choices and you can find a solution to this.

3. There's a better chance of ME being named to SCOTUS!
Hey, I DID attend the same prep school as Roberts? Does that count for or against me? LOL...

Seriously, not one of the Right Wing ideologues on the court are going to EVER step down voluntarily while a Democrat controls the White House...they would be donating organs to each other to avoid such an outcome!

7. Conflicts of interest and influence peddling
are no longer of interest in this country since Scalia ruled on Cheney's secret energy meetings. It just doesn't matter now. It's right in our face.

17. THOMAS HAD A CONFLICT-OF-INTEREST IN BUSH V GORE, AKA THE USURPATION

His wife was a fundraiser for the RNC; her salary depended on Republicans being in positions of power, specifically, "elected" office. He should have recused himself then.

And Scalia had a conflict-of-interest before his bribe-fest session with Cheney. He had a son working in the law firm of the guy who argued for Bush. Not very objective, and a clear conflict-of-interest.

The "Supreme Court" usurped (helped) steal the 2000 election; the 2004 election was stolen without their help.

It's a travesty.

can't they investigate her husband dumb dumb Thomas. Or can't she be sued or there has to be something that can be done. These republicans think they are above the law. Somebody some where has to go after them. And show they they are not.
