June 23, 2010 — This earthquake was also felt in Toronto and southern Ontario and apparently in some parts of the United States as well.

4. There will really be news if a quake strikes the St. Lawrence Fault
near the Seaway at Cornwall, Ontario.

I still vividly remember the quake that hit that area near the present Seaway in late August of 1944. The epicentr was some 40 miles east of my home.

It struck about midnight. I was lying in bed and remember hearing what sounded like a freight train roaring up the River and then it struck and I was thrown out of bed to the floor.
There was not much damage but brick chimneys all over the area were broken off and landed at right angles on their base. Strange sight!!!

The Seaway was constructed on the Cornwall site several decades later.

5. The building in Downtown Los Angeles where I work...
Is a couple of blocks from a fault that is overdue. I get nervous here on the 39th floor... :scared:

I've never been thrown from bed during one, however... that must have been freakishly scary!

8. This is why I yell at people to get under the desks in an earthquake.
Even in our 7.2 a couple years ago, some people just sit there with big deer-in-headlights eyes, waiting to see if it'll get worse, or stop, or whatever. They'll sit there until something klonks them in the head, if you don't jar them into action.

We have not had anything worth noticing in a while. Just a matter of time, I guess.

10. I'm finding it quite odd that there have been no aftershocks!
Look at the California/Nevada maps... we had a 7.0 a couple of weeks ago, and the map is dotted with aftershocks!

Then look at the Canadian quake... all day long and not one single aftershock.
