June 19, 2010 — This is the first song I've written in a while. It was inspired by the devastation of the Gulf oil spill--black poison pouring into the ocean and killing life, devestating the econony and wrecking lives. But it has a deeper connection--as human beings we battle the unleashing of black poison deep within our souls--our own self-seeking and pleasure obsessed lives. Each of us must deal with our own inner oil spills-- desire for instant gratification and lack of compassion for others. Sooner or later this human condition we all share may bring an end to this world one way or another.
Here are the lyrics:
DOWN
By
Joe C. Ellis
Deep down at the bottom of the sea,
Death has been unleashed,
Black poison pouring out.
Deep down at the bottom of my soul,
I can feel the deadly flow,
And it's bringing me down.
Chorus
The day of darkness
Will come upon us
And we'll be crying,
Lightning flashes
And in the ashes
So many dying
And all the world will stop
And watch the embers fall
Down . . .
Verse 2
Deep down at the bottom of a pit
So many missiles sit
Waiting for the day
Some clown with his finger on a switch
Finally gets the itch
To blow the world away
Repeat chorus
Verse 3
Deep down at the bottom of your soul
Can you feel the deadly flow?
Is it bringing you down?
This song is a warning to us all
We must listen to the call
Of the one who's coming down.

The oil spill seems to be causing an explosion of song writing. Music sounds sooo much better when the corporations aren't involved.
