Growing up, I was a 'bootstraps' guy. Who got the grades to get into college - I did. Who bought his first car with money made from a part time job - me. I was the definition of independant.

I had zero idea of how hard my grandfather had to work at his 2 chair barber shop to send my father to college so he could be cop. I didn't recognize how hard my other grandfather had to work at his farm to send my mother to school, so she could become a nurse. All I could think about at 13 was how I had nothing but my meager existence. Guess what, my parents sent 3 kids to college without even a thought, but even then I didn't realize I was standing on the backs of giants.

If there is 1 thing I will teach my kids, is that thier success is the result of generations of hard work and good breaks. There are other in this world who are not so lucky.

I mean, Ms. Coulter is correct about one thing - people really had unrealistic expectations of President Obama. He was supposed to inherit two wars, the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression and a host of other problems and make everything rosy in a year. He was supposed to quickly fix all of those problems that were almost 30 years in the making. He's human - not endowed with any magical powers. But I see it as the moderates/swing voters expected the fairy tale, not the Liberals. To an extent, Coulter is right about something else, too. In many ways Obama has not even been as competent as George W Bush, although my criteria is far different than Coulter's. Dubya was far better at keeping his party in control and getting the American people to believe it was raining when he was pissing on us. Now Obama's problem is that it's pouring and people think he's pissing around.

But whether we created the idea or he gave it to us, it doesn't change the fact that we somehow expected Obama was endowed with some sort of magical powers.

It is not Liberals who are childish, or backstabbing, but the American people as a whole and especially the so-called swing voters. Have they no principle? Many Americans - and especially the swing voters equate the current condition of our country (its economy) with who is currently President or which party is currently in power. That's a very naive view that disregards the fact that problems are years in the making. It's kind of like the people who eat crap their whole life, then one day decide to change their lifestyle. They eat healthy, they exercise. One week after this, they have a heart attack and think "Gee, eating healthy and exercising gave me a heart attack." Duh. Of course, some say Obama's the guy who came in and let us think that one week of a healthy lifestyle would reverse years of being a couch potato addicted to Big Macs.
