1. All these guys
know which side their bread is buttered on. De-fense is de-joke and it ain't funny. It's waste and Obummer is no different than 99.9% of the other politicians who wouldn't DARE even think of talking about cutting one iota of their spending budget. Defense does not equal safer. Deal with it, fraidycats.

2. Gee, who could have seen THIS coming....
It's time to start asking: Who is going to be the Primary candidate against Obama in 2 years? Does the Democratic Party just expect people to vote him back in when he has thrown us under the bus so many times? I WON'T vote Republican, but I may have to sit the next election out. I'm sick of this - 36 freakin' years of Corporate domination in the White House...

Yes, Obama, I really, really wanted that "change." Too bad we didn't GET it.

12. I'd love to see Gore. He has one presidency owed him.
And he might win.

Maybe Dean

3. I work for a place that sells numerous aerospace and military applications
and I can tell you that the whole thing is rigged.
We will continue to fight needless wars and there will be no end to it unless we stand against ALL that keep this madness going (and that includes any administration that wants to keep this insanity going)
Defense spending is going to remain high because there is a whole sub-economy depending on it. They have heavy lobbying power and give kickbacks on top of thier kickbacks.
We need real leaders like alan greyson and possibly kuchinich (unless he folds on us again like he did with healthcare) to lead a campain for REAL change! not this bush-lite crap today that compromises more with republicans than thier own base of progressives and real democrats.
Lets not get caught up in this whole "go team" mentality of right vs left, while things dont change.
We can't settle for corporate closet conservatives posing as democrats simply because voting for them is better than voting for conservatives with an R beside thier name.

6. Cynicism Trumps Common Sense And Simple Facts
President Obama is a Democrat. Obama wants to make sure Democrats stay in power. Obama's base, no not that one,not you, the real base, would lose its mind if the Democrats were to demolish Social Security and Medicare. The Dems would lose elections if they demolished SS and Medicare. Dems lose elections, Dems lose power. So with those facts in mind, why does anyone believe that Obama would destroy SS and Medicare? I see some arguments on another thread that he went back on single payer and individual mandates. There's a difference here folks. Single payer and individual mandates haven't been law for decades, people haven't invested decades worth of taxes into single payer and individual mandates. Millions upon millions of people aren't dependent on single payer and individual mandates. You say his actions don't match his promises? Well his past and current actions do not match your accusations. The bills that he has signed do not show any indication that he would be that Democrat who would destroy SS and Medicare or leave people twisting in the wind. It is political suicide and Obama's smart enough to know that.

but hey, if ya'll still think he is a Republican in disguise, More Like Him Please!

8. Also just read this
According to briefings by senior administration officials, the White House wants its fiscal commission to embrace something close to the Peterson formula of caps on social insurance coupled with a domestic spending freeze, a value-added tax, and mandatory deeper cuts if Congress doesn't meet targets. Not only is this perverse economics; it is a political gift to Republicans. They can be expected to warn that the White House has a secret plan to cut your Social Security and raise consumption taxes on the middle class -- and with unemployment still at nearly 10 percent!

13. I was gonna say, this doesn't seem very centrist to me. It's a wealth redistribution mechanism.
All of this stuff, privatization of social security and everything else they can think of, too big to fail with gambles leading to huge profits but all loss being covered by the people, ridiculous spending on national defense much of which is directed to private industry making huge profits, tax cuts for the rich raising the tax burden on the poor, outsourcing work to other countries and then saying we need to be more "competitive" by lowering wages and benefits or even removing the minimum wage, etc., these are all mechanisms to move the wealth of the country from the middle class to the rich. They're dividing the world into rich and poor and making sure the middle class fall on the poor side. And the Obama administration is squarely on their side giving us a "debt commission" stacked with these fascists who are waging the real class warfare.

When you compete with sweatshops, even if you win, you lose. We're fucked if we can't get the Democratic party under control or replace them.

9. that's not what he campaigned on

Am sick of hearing SS is an entitlement as if it's some kind of government gift. It's not. It's insurance paid in by every working American and yes they are entitled to receive it in full. If the democrats even think about privatizing, cutting or raising the age they're done for. Am not on it but there are lots of people who are. Especially with the capital that is being spent on two occupations, bank bailouts and stimulus to keep us afloat.

They can consider it all they want but it will be to their demise. People vote with their pockets. Privatizing this valuable insurance in this economic climate of pump and dump would be disastrous. Obama should know better and if not he doesn't deserve to be in that office.

16. The Pentagon won't be touched...
...significantly, anyway. Cenk was spot-on.

Too many politically well-connected people within the MIC make money off of empire maintenance.

I don't believe Obama's very serious about deficit/fiscal responsibility without the Pentagon taking a significant budget hit. I hope I'm wrong.
