1. Great rant

I'm with Rachel on this - disgusted. And I am very fearful that things will not change in our political system - so I feel things are not going to work. Our system is broken and it will allow big oil and other corporate abusers to get back to the status quo. :(

2. My added fear now is that it could happen again..

at any time. How many other off shore drilling platforms are there in the gulf and other places around our country and the world. Drilling as we speak with the same inadequate equipment and the same lack of technology and know how to address a second or third same type of "spill". If it happens once, it surely can happen again...and it will. Is someone..anyone checking the functioning of those other drilling sites? If we do not stop all off shore drilling then we need to monitor them all closely now.

Many news accounts on the moratorium extension implied that all deepwater Gulf operations had been shut down. But that's not the case. The administration is allowing deepwater drilling operations already in production in the Gulf to continue—including some that may pose a greater risk than the Deepwater Horizon. Exhibit A: BP's other major Gulf operation, the Atlantis, which sits 124 miles off the Louisiana coast.

Kenneth Abbott, a project control supervisor BP contracted to work on the Atlantis, and the environmental group Food & Water Watch filed suit against the federal government on May 17 seeking a temporary injunction to force the Minerals Management Service (MMS) to shut down the platform. Abbott claims that his contract was terminated shortly after he alerted management to the rig's lack of crucial engineering documents in late 2008.

Atlantis would make Deep Water Horizon look like a drop in the bucket compared to the oil it could let loose.

that someone, anyone....is motoring that project....and very, very constantly...to be sure this does not happen again. Please tell me this!

6. I wish I could, but I can't

I won't lie to you. We should all be very, very afraid. We're playing defense and the oil controlled offense is playing dirty.

But we can hope that somehow we catch a break. It's not like this is new. The reports from whistle blowers have been right there in the open. Maybe someone from BP will do the right thing now and re-evaluate that Atlantis rig - quickly!
