2. Good video - except they forgot one thing...
kids are taking jobs for 120k / yr on Wall Street, before 200K bonus, with full benefits, options, etc, and then outsourcing jobs to India and China where they work for 10K / year with zero benefits in hostile work environment.

Then their corporations funnel massive profits into democratic and republican leadership circles to ensure that this never changes.

3. So there you go.Amy Jaffe who has been writing about the oil industry for years
was shocked to find out there was no backup plan for an undersea blowout. Yes, THAT is the source of the public shock and horror, NOT that we can't figure a technology to stop it, but that we were led to believe the industry was safe when all the while there was NO PLAN! We can understand that certain sets of problems may be insurmountable under certain difficult physical conditions, but to have no plan at all - with the immense resources available to that industry - AND to keep rapaciously drilling. Unbelievable. What stupid fucking deceitful morons.

6. James Baker III Institute for Public Policy scholar . . . hmmmm . . .
and she's so shocked that there wasn't a backup plan. Well, I'm shocked, shocked that Amy Whats-her-face is a shill for the oil companies. Do Repug women go to a school to learn how to speak so that their voices are actually painful to listen to? The Sarah Palin Institute for Obnoxious Voices, perhaps.

4. Where the money is
The obscene, big money, I got mine and screw you, is in EXTRACTION, not engineering.

Making stuff better and more appealing - basic engineering - is so 19th Century quaint. Over engineered ponzi schemes is how to become a millionaire by the time you're 25!

thank you very much for the vid. I'm a Bill Nye fan and I didn't know he was a degreed mechanical engineer.

And at the core of this, it was not an engineering problem. It was a human being/management/decision making problem. I think the chain of command at the well was incentivized primarily on getting the job done quickly, not taking extra time to minimize risks and do all that is possible to insure safety.

5. The Science Guy gets to boiling point (@ 6:00 mins.) warning of similar danger of nuke power
going terribly wrong -thru human error like this BP disaster- and then... Bill Nie is cut off and the moderator takes the discussion back to more comfortable ground.
