(note: the video ends at 3:40 going into ads)

On The Ed Show, DNC Chairman Kaine talks to Ed about the comments by Rand Paul giving voice to discrimination acceptance. In case you didn't know, Tim Kaine worked predominantly with fair housing cases for 17 years as a Civil Rights lawyer.

Speaking on the Fair Housing Act, Kaine calls attention to a letter Rand Paul wrote to a newspaper during the Bush administration saying: "A free society will abide unofficial private discrimination even when that means allowing hate-filled groups to exclude people based on the color of their skin".

translation: Don't live in my neighborhood if you aren't lily white and speak & act just like me

5. He is right
In a completely free society that would allowed.

So would murder. In a totally free society you would have to rely on vigilante justice (If that is not a contradiction in terms) to settle any kind of dispute.

I recommend a summer study in Somalia for him to perfect and hone his vision of the perfect society.

6. There's a difference between talk and action.
Talk hate all you want. As soon as it transcends in to action, such as refusing to do business with people based on skin color, we got problems.

Rand Paul is advocating we accept racist action with regards to public housing, which is unacceptable.

8. Hey, PJT7. If you think you can spew some hate-talk based on skin color here at DU,
well, I'd like to get my order in right now for mushrooms, sausage, and anchovies.

7. Hmm
While I don't usually agree with the Libertarians on many social and domestic policies (mostly because in those instances they usually side with the conservatives to get votes, a true Libertarian would be pro-choice etc.) their foreign policies are spot on. Give up the Empire, reduce the military, stop the unnecessary endless wars and mind our own business. I would also be ok with reducing the Fed as well, that is a totally useless and corrupt institution.

It's just too bad that Libertarians always dig themselves into big holes by saying stuff like this. While I don't think that Paul is a racist, I can see their point of view. Let people be racists, their businesses will suffer and they will lose out. However the Jim Crow laws were necessary because of the violence that was going on in the South. The Libertarians are sometimes too ideological for their own good.
