May 19, 2010 — On May 11, 2010 Nurses United for the National Capitol Region picketed for three hours outside Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C. Nearly 2,000 registered nurses and supporters joined together to protest the hospital's failure to remedy unsafe staffing levels for patient care.

The first things private hospitals do to cut costs is lay off nurses and then force the remainder to handle more patients for longer hours. It leads to disastrous results from a medical standpoint.
