I like this!

The loonie Teabaggers in Kentucky were paying so much attention to what Rand Paul was saying about open-carry gun rights and abolition of the federal department of Education that they completely missed the part about de-criminalizing pot, leaving gays alone, dismantling the American Empire, holding Israel to account for their treatment of Palestinians, and blaming terrorist attacks against the U.S. on our unconditional support for Israel. Fortunately for the rest of us, most of his statements about those things are on tape, and can't be run away from. We'll see how well those other minor details play out at election time. (It kind of reminds me of that old Saturday Night Live sketch with Phil Hartman and John Larroquette as "The Gay Communist Gun Club." The Kentucky GOP would pay so much attention to the GUN CLUB part that they'd fail to notice they were joining a Gay Communist club.)

Meanwhile, Mitch McConnell is trying to paint a bold face on it. Basically, he and the rest of the GOP establishment is acting like Dr. Frankenstein when the monster breaks loose from his chains in that famous scene from "Young Frankenstein."

"Rand Paul? HELLO HANDSOME!"

6. And the sweetest part is that this will only embolden them to turn out to
...clobber all the OTHER GOP moderates in the primaries this year.

5. A banana slug can beat this guy, even if it gave him a ten minute head start.
That's what's so great about Paul winning the nomination. The Kentucky Senate race is now a Democratic lock.

Where can I send money to boost the primary campaigns of OTHER hopelessly un-electable libertarians in deep south red states???

7. hinges? those tea bagger hinges are all old and rusty - & they don't have the numbers

all they can really do is oust a few GOP'ers, but they won't get the votes in the general

thanks for playing though!

8. IMO, teapartiers (by and large) are idiots.
But, "de-criminalizing pot, leaving gays alone, dismantling the empire, holding Israel to account for their treatment of Palestinians, and blaming terrorist attacks against the U.S. on our unconditional support for Israel", do not seem unreasonable. Unfortunately, the "reason" (maybe) he was elected: "open-carry gun rights and abolition of the federal department of Education", DO seem irrational.
I hope (soo much) this means McConnell has NO chance for re-election. He is so corrupt and disgusting.
Honestly, the reasonable assumptions in this scenario would make him hard to beat (in anywhere except the bizarro world of RW'ers). It is too bad that a Democratic challenger will have to oppose the good ramblings to overcome the insane ones.
Are we sure that open-carry gun rights and abolition of the federal department of Education ARE what made him victorious? Damn, I hope not. Maybe, some good polling can determine this. It's just bizarro as hell that the sensible things will hurt him and the idiot ones help him.
A progressive who wants to repair the Dept. of Education (the open carry can be moot) but supports (what I see as) the positives, would be a great start for a new Progressive Senator against the status quo.
Sorry, it's hard to explain "pretzel logic" at 6 am...

9. I apologize.
I posted during my first cup of coffee. I did not realize that McConnell was not up for re-election. I despise this "man" so much, that I projected my desires. Unfortunately, this mean spirited bastard is still comfortably in the Senate. What a letdown when I read the election results and realized that Mitch was not affected, yet. Well, I guess I'll go cry. At least one neo-con is out in Ky., just not the worst one. :hide:

10. Clueless Tea Baggers
For sure but surprisingly re cousins - there are states which allow first cousins to marry; however, despite the public perception, Kentucky is not one of them. I was taken aback when I verified that.

Anyway, love the tie in to the Hartman (RIP) SNL skit, how apropos. Rabid teabaggers are not particularly deep thinkers and the devil is always in the details.

11. The Republicans taught us that who you associate with matters
Remember Rev. Wright and Bill Ayers. Rand Paul has associated himself with 9/11 Truther, NWO Conspiracy Theorist, Alex Jones. If they are going to play the associations game maybe the Dems should do the same to him. Rand Paul is the real radical.
