Though the politicians in Arizona are passing dangerous legislation, let's not lose sight of where the most dangerous place in the USA is...the roads of New Jersey. Enjoy!

1. I spent a week in Edison a few weeks ago...
I did notice the drivers are a "bit aggressive"...and there are way the hell too many of them. Funny thing is many folks over there feel living in OHIO like I do sucks....except when I point out to them that I can drive 37 miles in under an hour, where it takes them two and a half!!! Quality of life...I'll take mine. I do love the Pizza in Jersey though.

3. Yes, but in NJ.....
There are a lot more destinations and things to actually get to within that 37 miles. Where I am, 30 miles can get me to New York City, to the mountains/woods to camp, to the beach/ocian and in between any of those particular destinations there are any number of other slightly more mundane yet still interesting and worthwhile destinations or spots (restaurants, museums, parks, etc.).

It's not a better or worse thing, it's just a different approach. If you want more space around you and are o.k. with longer drives to get to most points of interest then the mid-west is for you. If you're o.k. with a little more congestion but also a little more activity and more variety of destination points.......then NJ is one of the better places you can live.

Believe me, there are many days where I curse this infernal place and vow to move. But then within one weekend without a great deal of driving I go to see a show or exhibit in New York city (or Philadelphia for a slightly longer but still manageable drive), go with my kids to the beach, go hiking in the mountains.......eat great pizza as you pointed out......and then at those moments I wouldn't trade it for anything.

4. Ah, well, the trip from New Yawk and Nawth Jersey to the Jersey Shore has been known
to turn the Parkway a little crazy. It's that "window" you need to make, the particular time you hit the roads before one event or another and then the same thing on the return trip. Do not miss it at all, I have crazy I95 now...LOL

5. It is the most densely populated state
But there are various reasons so many want to live here. We have the highest property taxes but there's no great exodus. Proximity to NYC, Philadelphia and the shore are big attractions. As for driving: timing and luck play a big role in getting from A to B.
Aggressive driving may be attributed to being on a mission from God.

7. I have family in the Newark/East Orange area,
and I can tell you from personal experience that the traffic is just as bad if not worse than anywhere else in America next to the Metro DC/Baltimore area. Every time I go up there it's like NASCAR on a good day, trust me. Even some of my cousins can't stand the traffic so they avoid the NJ Turnpike if they can help it, but the Garden State Parkway is just as bad.

Now that it's getting warm, pack a good lunch and a hell of a lot of patience when hitting the road!

8. 17 BASIC RULES FOR DRIVING IN NEW JERSEY

1. A right lane construction closure is just a game to see how many people can cut in line by passing you on the right as you sit in the left lane waiting for the same jerks to squeeze their way back in before hitting the construction barrels.

2. Turn signals are just clues as to your next move in road battle so never use them.

3. Under no circumstances should you leave a safe distance between you and the car in front of you no matter how fast you're going. If you do, the space will be filled in by somebody else putting you in an even more dangerous
situation.

4. The faster you drive through a red light, the smaller the chance you have of getting hit.

5. Never get in the way of a car that needs extensive body work.
(Remember no-fault insurance: he might not have much to lose, you do.)

6. Braking is to be done as hard & late as possible to insure that your anti-lock braking system kicks in to give you a nice relaxing foot massage as the brake pedal pulsates.

7. Construction signs tell you about road closures immediately after you pass the exit but before the traffic begins to back up.

8. The electronic traffic warning system signs are not there to provide useful information; they're just to make the Turnpike look progressive.

9. Never pass on the left when you can pass on the right. It's a good way to scare people entering the highway.

10. Speed limits are arbitrary figures to make NJ look as if it conforms with other state policies; these are given only as suggestions & are readily unenforceable.

11. Just because you're in the left lane and have no room to speed up or move over doesn't mean that the driver flashing his high beams behind you doesn't think he can go faster in your spot.

12. Please remember that there is no such thing as a shortcut during rush-hour traffic on the Garden State Parkway.

13. Always slow down and rubberneck when you see an accident or even a person changing a tire. If you're lucky, you may see the breakdown victim get mugged, the proceeds of which are vested directly into the Democratic
frontrunner's campaign for governor.

14. Learn to swerve abruptly. NJ is the home of the high-speed slalom driving thanks to NJDOT, who put potholes in key locations to test drivers' reflexes and keep them on their toes.

15. It is traditional in NJ to honk your horn at cars that don't move the instant the light changes. The state is founded upon such traditions.

16. Seeking eye contact with another driver revokes your right of way.

17. All unmarked exits on the Parkway lead to downtown Newark.

11. The Traffic Situation in NJ -
- has gotten progressively worse since I moved here from New York in 1981 (to get away from the crowds and traffic).

I can understand others here who obviously are younger than I and appreciate the many things there are to do in New Jersey, mainly in summer. But for me the fun places are too crowded and parking is next to impossible. So for us old farts the wide open spaces are far more appealing. Speaking for myself if it were not for the proximity to my married kids (who live here in NJ) I would move somewhere that there are so few people I'd be glad to see them now and then.

12. Ugh, that song is horrible...
A guitar, and knowledge of a couple of chords does not make one a singer-songwriter.
