derivatives were deregulated by Reagan and Bush Sr. not Clinton.

Glass Steagall had very little to do with the mortgage meltdown which was a combination of derivatives and Bush's SEC. the meltdown would have happened without it and they would have found other ways to engineer it. the underlying $100s of trillions in OTC derivatives were there since GAO said it was a danger in 1994. What clinton failed was to make a noise about this GAO report and make it clear that if the shit hits the fan it's the republicans' fault because frankly I don't see how he could have stopped this.
