These people are frightening.

Gun activists rally in U.S. capital

Last Updated: Monday, April 19, 2010 | 8:53 PM ET

CBC News

Hundreds of gun activists descended on Washington, D.C., and neighbouring Virginia on Monday to trumpet their constitutional right to bear arms and rail against what they perceive to be a socialist takeover of their country.

Many of those who gathered at Washington's National Mall carried replica firearms, but across the Potomac River in Virginia — where it is legal to openly carry some weapons — 75 to 100 people at a national park were packing real rifles, pistols and rounds of ammunition under the watchful eye of state and park police.

"We're in a war," Larry Pratt, executive director of Gun Owners of America, told a largely male crowd at the foot of the Washington Monument. "They are coming for our freedom, for our money, for our kids, for our property. They are coming for everything because they are a bunch of socialists," he said.

=snip=

Armed protests appear to be a growing trend in the U.S. In dozens of states, groups from the "open carry" movement are converging on coffee shops and restaurants with holstered handguns in clear view.

5. Two quick points...
One, the people speaking on camera are a caricature of themselves. And two, the fact these dudes are angry is an outstanding rational for gun control.

6. I do not believe they are frightening.
I think they are another of a diverse group of americans with issues with the current government. I am a democrat and I have issues with this government. We are going too far too fast. My grandchildren will be paying for this morass.

As to the open carry of firearms...no problem for me. If cops were the only ones with guns then we would be a police state. I might mention I am a current cop on the federal payroll myself. I have no worries about armed citizens. The armed badguys I have issue with. Telling the difference is pretty easy. The badguys tend to break the law. The armed good guys tend "not" to break the law.

I might mention on at least two occasions I responded to crimes in progress that were under the control of armed citizens holding the badguys at gun point. More power to'em.

15. How many times have you..
...responded to an incident where a gun was used by someone's child to kill or injure another child? How many times have you responded to an incident where a person was killed with their own gun? How many times have you responded to an incident where a person owned a firearm but was unable to protect themselves because they were not carring the weapon or did not know how to properly use a weapon?

Even off-duty police offiers can fall victim to crimes if they are not anticipating a dangerous situation. Owning a gun does not equal protecting one's self, and in many cases it makes any heated situation more dangerous for all parties involved. There may be a few situations where owning and using a firearm helps protect you and/or your family, but I believe in most situataions it just puts your family in more danger.

I'd make a quick exit out of the area. I don't own a gun and, putting it mildly, they don't seem like very stable people.

"We are going too far too fast." Please can you expand so we know what you really mean?

22. I don't think they're frightning either
I think they're a bunch of pussies that would stick tail between legs and run/hide at the first sign of violence.

Just like many cops, they allow the weapon holstered on their hip to become a substitute for what they lack in their pants.

they chase all the real coffee drinkers away, wonder how many shops will be left. People just won't go in places like that any more.

12. I think the part of the report showing Starbucks was lazy reporting
They showed a Starbucks sign, then someone sitting down with a gun in their holster (in Starbucks?) and then a group of people leaving a door. We don't know why those people are leaving...they were never asked. Maybe they'd just finished their coffee. The obvious slant in the story is they left because they didn't want to be around guns, but there is no proof of that. This was an edit job to put out the reporters opinion, not real news. Fox would be proud of CBC for playing by their rules.

10. 90 years or so ago, and with a lot less "provocation",
criminal syndicalism law were enacted, and ruthlessly enforced.

I wonder how large those Teabagger rallies would be, if there was the LEAST possibility of facing tear gas, tasers, truncheons, police horses, or making the No Fly List.

13. Not too smart them folks
Now, they don't get it that their boys Bush n' Cheezy gutted the Constitution and brought in the laws that would allow the current sitting Administration (whomever it was) to sweep 'em all up and jam their dumb hick asses into concentration camps without trial or even kill 'em on sight. If Obama was what the kooks claim he is, he would simply cut loose those 80,000 combat hardened troops we hearing about on them would be "patriots" and cut 'em all down to size. Fat old hillbillies with (relatively speaking) popguns against real hardware. No contest. Sure, there's a few hard cases among the kooks, but they are few and far between. The rest are as seen in the video: old fat fools with popguns which are only useful for scaring black families out of coffee shops. Bunch of funking BULLIES is all. They made not a peep when the previous gangsters raped the country. 100% of the debt is directly due to the Repugnicants and their boy retard and his sneering organ grinder. Oh, the tragedy of democracy is as the Greeks figured out many long years ago: it enables morans, kooks, thugs, and oligarchs to hijack the government. Where was these dumb hillbillies when Bush n' Cheezy STOLE TWO ELECTIONS????? Not only the dumb bastards didn't do anything about it, but they didn't even see it!! Talk about the elephant in the drawing room! The elephant tooks two huge dumps right on their dinner table and the hicks didn't see it. Are they all on hillbilly heroin or what?

"They are coming for our freedom, for our money, for our kids, for our property. They are coming for everything because they are a bunch of socialists..."

Where do these people get this shit?
Don't their fevered brains realize that it is THE CAPITALISTS who are stealing their freedom, their money, their kids and their property?
And that a .357 strapped to the hip in the Starbucks isn't gonna stop that?

From the http://westernrifleshooters.blogspot.com/2010/04/practical-tips-for-rtc-rally-19-april.html">Western Rifle Shooters Association, suggested talking points if a reporter approaches at today's Restore the Constitution armed march outside Washington, D.C.:
