In summer of 2009, environmentalists in W.Va. gained momentum in their battle against mountaintop removal.
In response, the king of unsafe mines decided to hols a giant "Friends of America" rally, featuring a number of rightwing celebrities to denounce government regulations and offer their endorsement of Massey.
Attendees included Ted Nugent, Hank Williams, Jr, Big and Rich and noted global warming denier Lord Monkton.
But the real event of the day was when FOX News' baby Jesus himself, Sean Hannity, flew in to give a rightwing pep talk to Blankenship's crowd.
The rally, in one of Blankenship's many attempts to screw unons, was deliberately scheduled against the United Mine Workers' annual Labor Day picnic (a 75+-year W.Va tradition in which local leaders meet with the workers).
The event cost Massey $1 million that could have otherwise been spent on bringing mines up to code. How much of the $1M Sean got for himself remains unclear.
Oddly enough, Sean's been very, very quiet today about his good buddy Don.
