Civil forfeiture laws represent one of the most serious assaults on private property rights in the nation today. With civil forfeiture, police and prosecutors can seize your property and use it to fund their budgets—all without charging you with a crime. Americans are supposed to be innocent until proven guilty, but with civil forfeiture, your property is guilty until you prove it innocent—and law enforcement has a huge incentive to police for profit, not justice.

2. This is another freedom that the right wing pretends not to notice
That was taken away from us with the war on drugs.
Why? because it is profitable for them in so many ways.

And as long as we have a right wing supreme cort nothing will change.

3. I haven't heard of the teabaggers making this point...
or have I missed something?

If they were really sincere about their "libertarian", anti-big-government, freedom-loving agenda, this issue would seem to be right up their alley. Did I say sincere?

or hasn't Dick Armey given permission for this? :sarcasm:

If they want to repeal something this would be a good place to start.

Could they actually turn to the constructive?????

Nahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...

4. This has been going on for years... it's the backbone of the War On Drugs..
In Florida.. any vehicle used in a "Felony" can be confiscated and sold.

A felony is described (among other things) as any property crime valued over $300.00.

Police are famous for over-estimating the "street value" of drugs... get caught with a few marijuana cigarettes... you can lose you house, your car and your freedom.

Bilk Taxpayers out of $700 Billion and give it to Goldman-Sachs... you become Time's "Person Of The Year".
