16. Ridiculous! Video phones and recorders are too small
and too convenient to police unless everyone is frisked and that's not going to happen
especially in NYC.

2. To be precise, the ruling targets PROFESSIONAL videographers. But who decides who is a pro, that is
the question. A cop who doesn't like an AMATEUR filming a protest can arrest on this charge now, sort it out later.

The video crazy tourist who films more than a half hour at a crack might have a problem, too...

Happy to be the 5th Recommend.

Amazing...

The "authorities" can do all the surveillance they want but the citizens can't...

6. HAHAHAHAAA! Don'tcha' all worry yer heads about it.
First of all, the chances of something so ridiculous passing are slim.

Second; these fuckers are always behind. They're going to get bitten in the ass by enough videographers with mini and micro vid cams after they think they're no longer being watched that they might have to rethink the law. And that's not even considering instant upload cameras.

This will eventually backfire in a big way.

Meanwhile it really sucks for journalists, artists, tourists and anyone who might just want to catch some cool shots.

And yes, this is a big civil liberties issue. It'll be easy to get a spotlight on it... so to speak.

7. So does this get rid of the traffic cams too?
I've always had an issue with automated ticketing.

18. Ohh sure...
I suspect that this idiotic move has more to do with revenue enhancement
than anything else (just like traffic/stop light cams).

21. Automated systems are so easy to fool.
First thing I'd do is steal a city worker's front plate and run a bunch of red lights with it on my car. Not hard to work out the logistics.

8. WALK UP AMERICA!!!
Maybe they are afraid 'someone' will film ‘the truth’ about the next attack, like so many good citizens did the first one.
:wtf:
Is there no end in sight?
Who’s claiming responsibility for this one? Bloomberg? City Council? Who?
It doesn’t matter, they is gonna do what they is gonna do, and until ‘we the people’ stop them, there is no end in sight.

WALK UP AMERICA!!!

12. Go to youtube and search on "police brutality"...
..."police state" and similar phrases if you'd like to find what they're actually trying to accomplish here. They don't want their police state in action documented for all to see. Corporate owned MSM cooperates with not exposing it, but ordinary citizens don't, so they need these ordinances.

...if you make the wrong cops angry:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=SXolf463YbM

The court meted out the justice this guy deserved, but the cops have NO right to do this kind of thing to anybody. I'm no cop hater, I think it can be a very stressful and frustrating job, but nobody forces anyone to become a police officer.

"Cleared of any wrongdoing" seems to be the foregone conclusion of virtually every internal investigation into police abuses -- they are destroying whatever credibility they may have had with the public in doing this.

17. Is Big Brother going to be required to obtain a permit as well?
Crime-fighting beats privacy in public places: Americans, by nearly a 3-to-1 margin, support the increased use of surveillance cameras — a measure decried by some civil libertarians, but credited in London with helping to catch a variety of perpetrators since the early 1990s.

Given the chief arguments, pro and con — a way to help solve crimes vs. too much of a government intrusion on privacy — it isn't close: 71 percent of Americans favor the increased use of surveillance cameras, while 25 percent oppose it.

is such a power move. Look how well it's worked in Iraq: The war would be over in a week if everyday we could see extensive pictures of what is happening there.
