1. Scary. How many more places like that are there in the US?
Talk about terrorism. How could you continue to live in a house with that many firearms/ammo? I'm surprised the neighbors didn't turn him in.

3. Having alot of weapons is not a crime.
Were any particular weapons illegal?
Was he breaking any laws? If not, I'm curious as to why is being held w/out bail.

5. He was "shooting" his weapons indoors?
If true, that would be against the law.
He could have at least used the basement out of concern for his neighbors.

6. yes. if you listen to the report it clearly state he had turned the 3rd
floor loft into a shooting range and was firing various weapons up there. Also, I don't believe grenades (peppper spray or tear gas) are permitted by the general population. I also heard something in there about "military grade". Besides whether the weapons were of an illegal type or not various types of ammo are illegal as well. And, if as it sounds, he is mentally unstable (talking of randomly shooting people in the head because they are "traitors") he should not have ANY of these weapons.

14. The shooting in the attic is a danger ro everyone around
Plus the statements made to the neighbors, the nature of the weapins collected, the vests and helmets. I know plenty of hunters and target shooters with this # of weapons, but they are a range of weapons with different purposes. How much ammo did he have?
And I know for a fact, there are more like him out there, waitin' for their time.....

17. That may be a misstatement
But in the neighboring state (NH), it's not legal to wear body armor when you are carrying a weapon, unless you're LEO. We had a "presidential canidate" busted in '94, IIRC

15. Even though there isn't a law precluding someone from owning a large
stash of legal guns and ammo, I think there should be some sort of limits.

IMHO, people such as this guy are time bombs waiting for their fuse to be lit.

19. Like the guy I worked with, that the boss called "McVeigh"?
16,000 rounds in a 2br condo, plus homemade "fireworks". If he did'nt like the song on the radio, it was time to shoot down the transmitter.
Powerball was up to 100 million, we were talking at break about what we'd spend the money on - K would buy motorcycles and guitars, maybe a boat. C would buy the "biggest Bimmer they got", and more big dogs. J wanted a big screen TV, a hot tub, and 6 fridges full of chinese takeout. I wanted to build a club race track for my frriends. "Mc Veigh" talked for 5 minutes about lights, fences, guard dogs and cameras.

16. The key here is to find out if he is a loner or a member of a group. He is definitely someone's
customer. What is the law for selling the weapons they singled out as illegal or unusual? I am kind of an illiterate about gun laws.

18. Do you remember the stories about missing weapons and money in Iraq? If someone
needed a plot for a book or script - this could be it - someone's version of matial law assistance. Storage and training at a private levels?

Did he want his wife to use the other vest and helmet? Was he training her? Was the second set for his partner? A writer could even work the plot to make his partner a mystery person, but with some clues that the person might be a female?

22. Where did Mr. Crazy Pants get the money for all that stuff?
I watched that clip and I couldn't help but think that he was surely wasting a great deal of money. If you are just an "army of one" in your mind, why buy an arsenal? Why not just by 1-3 weapons and loads of ammo? Why do these guys go whole hog? They buy guns like Imelda bought shoes.

23. Remorgatge the house?
I heard of one loon that did that, around the time of the assault weapons ban. Some of it is stolen military - I know of a 30,000 round stash from that. There are others who rathole away all their spare money in ammo, or trade/deal guns, ammo, etc to finance their "hobby". And there is a LOT of surplus military stuff around, from the old Eastern Block countries.
And reloaders? Lots of guys do it - makes their shooting more affordable. But there are some gararges and basements out there that are virtually ammunition factories, ready to go.

Edited on Fri Feb-12-10 03:26 AM by wroberts189

He was living off his wives high income staying home all day listening to Rush and Beck as he planned his war.

It was an oceanfront house in a very nice area btw. ..doubt he made that money himself.

I bet his wife made a very well calculated strategic decision.

24. This fellow is an exception -
- who should not be held up as being in any way similar to ordinary gun enthusiasts. He obviously is paranoid but, fortunately, he's harmed no one and he should not be treated like a malicious or anti-social felon.

29. Owning a bunch of guns = no crime. Telling your wife "It's ok to shoot people in the head if...
...they're traitors" and grooming himself for being the arbiter of that bloody "justice"...well, that's when yer wife's supposed to call the police on ya, hoss!

She's doin' ya a favor!
