4. I saw the show this AM, and I must give a bit of applause to Megan McCain
for her ad against Prop8 in California. Quite beautifully though, Sarah Silverman took it a step further and said that she couldn't in good conscience marry when there were other people out there wanting to get married but are being denied the right to.

6. Yes, she is as it also seems that her Mom is to a certain extent with her protest photo against
Prop 8. I adore those photographs btw.

I hope that one day Cindy gets the courage up to divorce McCain's sorry ass.

8. I don't really ever watch The View
but I caught it today and I kinda cringed through the whole thing. Sarah makes liberals look bad, though of course I don't believe she should necessarilly be seen as a spokesperson, but she will be seen as one by many. The whole "Pope" schpiel just came across as rather airheaded, and her humor was pretty flat, as it usually is. She comes across as a "dumb blonde" and though I know it's part of her humor, it doesn't work well because it's really not that funny.

She has zero wit or charm and just comes across as shallow, stupid, and grating. Stephen Colbert has a similar act, where he acts stupid, but you believe it's an act, and he backs it up with very smart underlying ironies.

11. What's wrong you can't handle the truth?
the truth comes in many packages. Why shouldn't the vatican feed and house the poor? Why should we listen to them...

12. I am right there with you. I really think that Sarah Silverman is not really an act....
Edited on Thu Feb-04-10 05:28 PM by liberation
... but rather a person who figured out how to get away with her passive aggressive personality disorder and make a mint off it. I am also sick and tired of these dimwits self electing themselves as the "vanguard" of liberalism in this country. Also, Ms. Silverman should at least be intellectually honest, by not attempting to transform the fact that she is not interested in marrying someone, a totally personal choice and nothing wrong with it, into something far more "exotic" like it being her own personal fight against injustice. But I guess it is more awesome to claim you are not getting married because of the overwhelming injustice being perpetrated against homosexuals in this country, than it is to recognize she is not getting married because Jimmy Kimmel dumped her ass (or was it viceversa, whatever). That is utterly exploitative in my opinion.

Although, I must say that at least in this interview... Sarah Silverman did not go out of her way to remind us she is Jewish every 25 seconds. So it was an improvement.

P. Rant:
In my opinion, a big deal of modern humor in America has devolved into a bunch of idiotic kids plagiarizing each other's snark. And snark is the lowest form of wit, even lower than sarcasm... because it tries to shield the author of any real responsibility, for their attacks on other people, by using the cover of the easy joke (and a bad ones at that most of the time, missing the point completely more times than not). There are of course exceptions, and some great comedians out there. But I am afraid Ms. Silverman is not one of them. There is an implicit asshole streak in our society. My theory is that a bunch of whitey kids thought they could cash on it, by copying some of the angry comedians of yore (specially blacks), who unlike them had actual grievances from first hand personal life experience, and could only tell it like was to the white majority by expressing their angst in a key of humor: sometimes, you gotta laugh in order not to cry and it takes a special level of wit to get away with telling truth to power by putting the joke firmly on them. However, as usual... whitey suburbanite kids without the same context (or wit) went out of their way to copy these acts. If we compare the genius that was Colbert getting away with literally telling Bush to f*ck off to his own face, to Silverman's act... it is like night and day: Colbert's act is his caricature of an asshole, while Silverman's is an asshole trying to be a caricature.

15. I agree generally...
especially about Silverman personally. I don't know if I agree with the whole "whitey" rant, which came across as somewhat hateful though. To put the blame on just "whitey" or "whitey suburbanite kids" comes across as rather bigoted and ignorant. Sarah Silverman's style of comedy can be more attributed to Jewish influence than any "whitey kid stealing from blacks" theory to me. The dark humor of having a contest between Holocaust Memorials as one of her show's plots for example. But dark, sarcastic, and ironic humor requires a lot of intelligence and wit to pull off correctly, and I just don't think Sarah has it. She comes across as annoying rather than endearingly naive.

I watched the Sarah Silverman Show once, and it wouldn't be so bad except for Sarah herself on it. I actually like the other actors on the show in general, but then Sarah seems to be the really annoying character that ruins the show.

22. For one thing...
every Dem is not Liberal on all matters and how does she make libs look bad? Because she is telling the truth which many in this country hate to hear so they always try to stifle it. Is it because she is talking about the catholic church?

which is full of hypocrites and pedohiles (not all).. Is it because they claim they help the poor but they pick and choose which poor and when.

I have been watching the children in Africa and Bangledesh and other countries starve for years while this church is doing nothing and the members worship whomever they choose as pope as though he is GOD.. I worship no man.

16. DAM SHE IS GOOD! The DNC should hire her!
OH I just love Sarah. She understands how to communicate, a clear and concise message. She understands how to capture the moral high ground and shame those who need it while keeping everyone smiling and relaxed. The DNC should hire her.

18. I recognize that her style of humor isn't for everyone.
While I, personally don't find it appealing in most cases, I can appreciate that the outrageous things she says are meant to be funny. In fact, they are considered funny by enough people for her to have her own television show. I used to think that celebrities had no business using their fame as a platform for their political views, but then I realized that they are people just like the rest of us. If they feel that they have a responsibility, not as celebrities, but as citizens to voice their opinions, then they have every right to do so. The fact that they do it while cameras and microphones are pointed at them is coincidental. That's part of being a celebrity, and more of a hassle than a blessing more often than not. If cameras and microphones are going to record everything they say and do anyway, why not turn it into an opportunity to do something good for the world and draw attention to injustices that many would rather see ignored.

Of course, she might not want to marry her new guy cause she's too busy fucking Matt Damon.
