A nice summary of some of what PETA does. Not suitable for those who don't want to see what we do to animals in this enlightened, progressive age.

1. Posted to my Facebook page, with the note:
"Difficult to watch.
Some may prefer the bliss of ignorance."

Thanks for the reminder that I haven't donated to PETA in 2010 yet. On my calendar for next payday.

It's easy to see why corporate farmers have convinced the Feds that PETA is a "domestic terror organization," or at least the USDA lists them that way on one of their forms.

Many years ago, early in my environmental health career, I was assigned to do USDA inspections at a small slaughterhouse outside of Fairbanks, Alaska. A small assignment: A few cattle and about a dozen swine. The process was brutal, so I won't describe it here. One of the pigs got loose and ran up to me, like it wanted help, with the same eyes I imagined our canine family members might have had in that situation. I told my supervisor I wouldn't go back.

2. I don't agree with all of their tactics.....but I'm sure glad they do
...the important work that they do. The single biggest thing the INDIVIDUAL can do to help the animals is to boycott cruelty by not buying products of the modern factory farm. Put your morals where your mouth is- go vegan

4. Haven't gone vegan yet, but...
We don't eat poultry, pork or beef. We do use dairy products, but do our best to use products from humane sources. And we eat fish, but limit what we consume to sustainable fisheries.

Our long-term goal is pure vegetarianism. I'm not sure I can cross that final line to veganism because I have trouble thinking of honeybees as exploited.

9. I kind of resist being a vegan, but links like that

10. I know what you mean about the honey bees....

...my main thing is boycotting the cruelty. In today's agribusiness, animals are just equipment used for growing meat. Compassion for them just isn't cost-effective, just doesn't help the bottom line and that's all that matters to corporations. I just refuse to be part of the demand that requires that kind of supply. A pig is very much like a dog, it's only because of tradition that we pamper one and torture, yes torture, the other. Kudos to you, it's heartening to hear of more people coming to this conclusion. When it comes to animal welfare, human health, rain forest deforestation (for grazing land) even energy consumption, ground and surface water pollution, world hunger, disease, the list go on and on, eating lower on the food chain is a win-win-win.....

5. Thanks for the warning. As shocking as some of the scenes are,
Edited on Wed Feb-03-10 02:22 AM by gtar100
the video is not nearly as grim as the ongoing suffering so many animals go through daily.Thank God for PETA. Who else is taking such a strong stand against human ignorance and cruelty?

8. A Thousand Rec's
I may not agree with all of their tactics and I certainly cannot be there for them - but then I think what if no one was doing what they do?

The quality and depth of our humanity is reflected in how we care for those who cannot speak for themselves.

Go PETA - on the front lines standing up for our consciences and humanity!
