Palin Tricked By Comedian Again, Says Canada Should Drop Public Health Care (VIDEO)

At a recent stop on her "Going Rogue" book tour, Sarah Palin told Canadian comedian Mary Walsh that Canada should get rid of its public health care system.

Walsh is the co-creator and star of This Hour Has 22 Minutes -- a nightly news parody show in the same vein as The Daily Show -- and she arrived in character, as the conservative Marg Delahunty, to the Borders where Palin (the "Alaskan Aphrodite") was signing books.

"I just wanted to ask you if you have any words of encouragement for Canadian conservatives who have worked so hard to try to diminish the kind of socialized medicine we have up there." Walsh shouted to Palin as she approached the table.

Palin's handlers tried to help her by ushering Walsh out of the Borders, but Palin could not be deterred. When Palin left the signing, Walsh caught up with her in the parking lot, where Palin suggested that Canada should get rid of its public health care system. "Keep the faith" Palin said, "because common sense conservatism can be plugged in there in Canada too. In fact, Canada needs to reform its health care system and let the private sector take over some of what the government has absorbed."

6. Well, you can see Canada from Alaska, so I suppose she's fully qualified to comment...
Never mind that 90% of Canadians want to keep a universal, single payer system - Sarah knows best.

Wasn't the guy who pretended to be Sarkozy also Canadian?

7. Yes he was
A Montreal DJ? I can't quite remember, but "Sarkozy" was definitely Canadian.

Poor Moosebreath, she just can't catch a break from our northern neighbors. I love it.

9. Mary Walsh is a national gem!
She has been doing this to Canadian politicians for years. Ms. Walsh has a character where she dresses up as the Princess Warrior, somewhat akin to Xena the Warrior Princess, and, complete with sword (!) has approached prime ministers, members of parliament, senators, et al with the same sort of gusto and brazen aggression. The politicians in Canada know her, however, and when they see her coming they laugh and play along, even the humorless conservatives! You can almost hear them saying "Oh, God, here she comes!"

As for the Canadian comedians who punk'd Palin, it was Marc-Antoine Audette and Sebastien Trudel, of CKOI/Montreal, a duo calling themselves the Master Avengers. And masterful it was!

While I'm on the subject, another Canadian comedian, Rick Mercer, did the same thing to Bush Jr. during the 2000 campaign. After a very short Q&A in a crowded hallway after George's speech, Rick, with microphone in hand, thanked him and said, "Prime Minister Poutine wishes you all the best, Mr. Bush!" Bush bought it, of course, and gave his best wishes back to "Mr. Poutine". Can't seem to find it on YouTube, though. Too bad, it was hilarious!

And Happy Thanksgiving, by the way!

11. Should she travel the world giving the same advice to all
countries that give their citizens health care. Why stop at Canada. I mean she is such an expert the world would jump at a chance to please her.

14. You know, we're the ones by giving her all this "bad" press, are the............
...............reason she's so huge in the right wing circles. The only place she would be getting press is on Fox and unreadable rags like the NY Post and the Washington Times. The more we laugh at her, the more the RW loves her, even as fucking stupid as she is. I have made it a point to "try" to ignore any news (I know, it's really hard NOT to laugh at some of the shit) about her in the press or on TV.
