4. This is key...
This is a point I recently brought up to my senators and representative in my most recent email to them. It's very important to understand the hypocrisy of not only congress, but of every single person who criticizes the new health care reform bill because of it's price, while simultaneously voting and/or supporting a bloated defense budget year in and year out. The next time I encounter someone who brings up the price of the bill as a reason they are against it, the first thing I'm going to ask them is if they questioned the price of the war in Iraq, the price of war in Afghanistan, or the price of the defense budget in any given year. If they answer no, then I'll tell them that their complaints are illegitimate and they lack any credibility when it comes to criticizing how the government spends our tax dollars. Simple as that.

The ONLY role of government is to defend us, therefore defense spending is ok. Any other type of spending is Big Government out of control and ruining our lives.

7. Duh
There I go again with this crazy idea that our tax dollars should actually go toward essential services and infrastructure rather than to war profiteers!

:)

I think the military, as it stands, is almost entirely obsolete and ineffective in the modern world. When is the last time a nuclear sub, aircraft carrier, or massive troop invasion actually did us any good? WWII? As defined by the Constitution, war is between two separate nation states, not rogue organizations like these loosely nit terrorist networks everyone is so afraid of. There is practically zero chance of us getting into a Constitutionally acceptable war with another nation state as far as I can see. Aside from that, how many people actually die from terrorism each year in the USA? Do you ever actually worry about being blown up by a terrorist when you step outside of your home? I know that over 40,000 people die each year precisely because they don't have health insurance, and I'm certain that's more than the number of people who have died as a result of terrorism through out our country's entire history. To put it another way, what do you fear more; cancer, heart disease, and stroke, or a person living in a slum on the other side of the world?

Pretty soon the government is going to have to pass a bill which I'd dub "The American Digestive System Reconstruction Act of 2010". That way we can start eating our bombs, because that's about all this country makes now.

8. Welcome to DU, but
there are a lot of people who worry about being terror victims in the US:

1) Any healthcare professional who works at a family planning clinic (i.e., somewhere you can get an abortion)
2) People that work for the US government in some capacity (i.e., victims of Timothy McVeigh types)
3) And, Republicans who wet their pants whenever they see somebody who practices Islam

6. And tell them where to go
in terms of what else they were willing to trade off, if they also want to complain about the run-down infrastructure or loss of important services, benefits and protections in their own communities:
