1. NOT TRUE. They've only banned the union of a man and a woman.
They've left the door open to unions between two people of the same gender.

I live in Texas and have enough problems with that for other reasons without always defending it politically. There are a lot of liberal/progressives here and many, many fairly ordinary people who don't froth at the mention of President Obama and who may be religious but certainly not weird about it. We have Jews, Wiccans, Pagans, Catholics, Muslims, Buddhists, Atheists just like every other state except for Wyoming perhaps. Slam the idiots and ideologues they deserve it but stop the damn smearing of 22 million people as though that many could agree on any one thing.:mad:

13. And welcome to them...
There are so many in so many places that we could spend the rest of our lives dealing with them. Frankly I don't think they are worth the effort and I am too old to waste it on idiots. What is worth the effort is to make this country a country we all can be proud of and that works for the majority.

But no government, state, local, or federal, can ban marriage, a common law right--along with the right to private property, contract, etc.--secured by the Ninth Amendment: "The enumeration in the Constitution of certain rights shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people."

9. At first, I thought.... this is insane! Then I heard that it was for Texas and....
I am now quite happy about it and hope they don't reverse it. Now if they can do something about Texans reproducing. Maybe this is the first step. :)

10. Aw, c'mon, Texas is now a Purple State and starting to change
the power structure at the top has always cracked a harsh whip. The wealthy in Texas are VERY wealthy. My mother still remembered how the Ku Klux Klan used to gallop on horseback into minority neighborhoods on election days, brandishing their whips and stopping to shoot the shit with store owners, who were in collusion with them, and watched for minorities headed for the polls. The "hanging tree" still stands in my old town in Stockdale, Texas, where the town still whispers of a Mexican pre-adolescent who was dragged to his death long before anyone ever heard of Jasper, Tx., for stealing eggs from a rancher to feed himself and his widowed mother.

But, things are slowly changing. The minority downtrodden, fed fear for several generations, are now starting to get more involved in politics and every day, new arriving immigrants and northern transplants are also starting to make their way to the polls. Every time a new poll has been taken, Texas has trended more and more blue. This is why those in power are frantically diluting all but the most concentrated of their base.

But, don't expect change overnight. The oil and cattle barons of the state are among the most corrupt individuals in the country. It's going to take a great deal to topple that power structure. And minorities are still very disenfranchised. In my extremely large Hispanic family, a stubborn attitude exists among many of them that the voting process is fixed and that the ruling class is too entrenched so why even bother? Although, this last election, a few surprised me by actually getting angry enough to show up at the polls.

The other side uses hatred and fear to get their masses to the voting booths. This last election, the general hatred of Bush and fear of a future under another administration like his, got many on our side to the polls. Why do we persist in trying to get our people to vote for our resolutions by sweet talking our points? It just doesn't work! We need to borrow a few tactics from the other side and use fear and anger to put our points accross. Heaven knows, we have valid ones. Using logic is useless.

What about the really IMPORTANT distractors like marriage between men and goats. That slippery slope. Once you give an inch...you know what can happen. Women will marry Great Danes.
