This is a very political video in my opinion. It shows us growing up as a country and how we haven't learned the lessons of the past and are doomed to repeat those same mistakes. I also think we've lost our soul as a country - can we get it back? Does rampant capitalism lead to soulless people living in a soulless country?

1. I thought it was a gay-pride song...
(shrug) Whatever. It's still one of my all-time favs, whatever its "true" meaning is.

2. I interpreted it as I watched it with no preconceptions
That's why music is an art form - and accompanying videos, if properly done, can enhance the experience of the music.

7. "Love dares you to care for the people on the edge of the night"

Lyrics can apply to almost anything: War, poverty, the environment, bitter and petty hatreds, bigotry, you name it:

Pressure
Burns a building down;
Splits a family in two;
Puts people on streets.

And the song ends with "Love! love love ...."

Cause love's such an old fashioned word
And love dares you to change our way of
Caring about ourselves
This is our last dance
This is ourselves
Under pressure

Exactly. Granted, some of my emotional attachment to the video is sentimental, but I can't help but feel like we've lost something more than just civility in our downward spiral from JFK to "W".

"Caring for the people at the edge of the night" strikes a cord with me.

10. The lack of compassion is encompassed
in that creepy word "love" that scares the crap out of people & makes people get all silly and snarky - even here at DU.

Love love love love love
Insanity laughs under pressure we're cracking
Can't we give ourselves one more chance?
Why can't we give love that one more chance?
Why can't we give love give love give love give love
give love give love give love give love give love
'Cause love's such an old fashioned word
And love dares you to care for
The people on the edge of the night
And love dares you to change our way of
Caring about ourselves

It's missing...

12. Freddy was so talented
Difficult to believe that those who would celebrate HIV most often have the nerve to call themselves Christians.

Many people feign tolerance, but look the other way when their support is needed on issues like marriage equality.
