4. I did not say it was in the Senate form of the bill.
Didn't you hear Stupak arrogantly say he would stop health care if they took it out?

No, Stupak is in the House, not Senate.

Why are you angry because women don't want their rights taken away?

5. Why do you think I am angry?
It was you that said in your OP "Stop the anti-choice Stupak Amendment from becoming law!!... "
And I said it is not in the Senate version of the bill, therefore it is NOT going to become law.
I am a WOMAN and there are MANY of us women out here that are not upset about this issue - because INSURANCE COVERAGE if you have it or not does NOT take away the right for a woman to have an abortion!
There are TONS of Americans and TONS of them are Democrats that do not want federal money or federal SUBSIDIES paying for abortions.
I completely support a woman's right to have an abortion WITH HER OWN MONEY!

8. It is not out of the final bill yet.
I am saying good by to you for I have no patience for anti-choice people when we have a majority in congress.

You are going in circles, the words you quote were from Planned Parenthood, not me.

Not that it matters. You are not correct. Stupak is not gone.

this cycle. I intend to do whatever possible with Planned Parenthood to take them down. They are not Democrats. And our alleged Big Tent doesn't seem to apply to women and GBTL or unions anymore. What in fact do we stand for? No Big Tent gets to abolish core principles.

3. K&R and I signed the petition,
but that was a stupid ad. Using a '70s cigarette ad to promote contemporary women's health issues? :wtf: I mean, i know they were trying for retro, but couldn't they bring back the coat hangers to bring the actual health issue into the ad visually?

7. It's an INSURANCE issue, not a CHOICE issue.
No one is taking away the RIGHT to have an abortion.
No one is closing down abortion clinics.

THIS IS AN INSURANCE ISSUE.

No matter what the HCR bill says about insurance, every woman can still TAKE THEIR OWN MONEY and have a legal/safe abortion.

10. That wasn't my point.
Edited on Fri Nov-20-09 02:17 AM by intheflow
My dislike of the ad is because the amendment had nothing to do with fucking cigarettes, which is a whole other health issue. You're seeing cigarettes and thinking "cancer" but you're reading about abortions. It's a disconnect, a strange juxtaposition of image and word. That's why it's a stupid ad.

16. I meant coat hanger like this:
http://mikeely.files.wordpress.com.nyud.net:8090/2009/05/stop_coat-hanger_abortion.jpg

And like the CREDO action from last week, sending coat hanger to supposed pro-choice Dems who voted in favor of Stupak's amendment.

14. Some just respond like robots with the talking points. doesn't matter what one posts.
I don't remember seeing cigarettes in the ad. I "know" is is based on the old Virginia Slims Ad, but many won't recall it. i think it is only a parody of the "You've Come A long Way baby Ad Campign". And that was also used for a lot of things and became quite a common everyday phrase despite the connection to smoking.

18. You're right
A woman who needs a medically indicated abortion, but isn't quite dead yet, can still have the legal medical procedure to which she has a Constitutional right ... as long as she has $9,000 to $18,000 dollars in her pocket. Sure, lots of women on Medicaid have that kind of money, right.

20. Not to mention the money to travel
if there are no abortion providers in her immediate area. But if you're poor in SD, for instance, you are just SOL.

22. You're wrong...
Edited on Fri Nov-20-09 04:59 PM by Tx4obama

There were exceptions in the Stupak Amendment to allow for abortions in cases of incest, rape and when the life of a woman is in danger.

Also, Medicaid DOES PAY NOW and will continue to pay for abortions in cases of incest, rape and when the life of a woman is in danger.

And in 'normal cases' abortion fees run from $350 to $900.

23. "Life of the mother" means "immanent danger of death"
Edited on Fri Nov-20-09 08:38 PM by Blue State Blues
it does NOT mean "health of the mother" it does not mean "medically indicated." So, if she's not about to die, she can't get one under Stupak if it remains in the final bill, or under Hyde today if she has Medicaid, Medicare, or any Federal or Military Plan.

I did not say anything about the cost of "normal" cases, I'm talking about "medically indicated" cases, which are more complicated. Medically indicated abortions, due to risk of complication, must often be done in hospital settings. The price in these cases is far higher than you quote -- the $9000 to $18000.
