Wow - Naomi Klein spills the beans on just how little she knows. What absolutely astounds me about modern "intellectuals" (IN QUOTES and LOWER CASE i) - is that they write about things as though it were a discovery - a first time event, simply because they have no historical perspective.
It is only the past century that war fare has completely abandoned the privatized military - in fact decolonialisation in the mid east and Africa post world war two saw the return to privatized contractors in Yemen, Algeria etc.
The history of war is almost entirely made up of private militaries - with conscripts a relatively knew phenomenon along with the rise of the nation state (thats what patriotism does for you - provides a vast army of willing citizens ready to die for what ever crazy ideas the elites have).
One can still see the Swiss Pikesman - the most famous of all private military mercenaries - guarding the Vatican.
But how can Naomi simply ignore the Dutch East Indies company which was entirely made up a private army ? OOps - nothing here is new Naomi, your ideas aren't new, nor original. Do some homework as you look silly.
In fact that greatest of American past times FILIBUSTERING comes directly from private military origins - DEEEERRRRR!!!
The world freelancer and COMPANY (oh the irony is dripping off the page) comes from PRIVATE MILITARY origins. COMPANY comes from the Latin - WITH BREAD - as the soldiers worked together and ate together - oh well nothing like dressing stuff up like its your own unique idea - until someone points out the bleeding obvious.
