Google announces new features that make it easier for content providers to offer video accessible to the Deaf and hard of hearing through captions. This video is captioned, simply turn them on. Help spread the word to make online content more accessible to Deaf and hard of hearing people.

1. Tooting my own horn here..

I was working on this tech about 6 years ago. Unfortunately my boss didn't get it, and it just faded away. I should have worked for Google instead. :(

2. I was in working in this field in its infancy.

Voice recognition has come a long way. I remember having to create the transcription, and using Magpie to time code the captions.

Amazing that the technology is there where the software can differentiate speech without 'training' a voice recognition pattern, as anyone who has ever used Dragon Naturally Speaking can attest. It will be interesting to see what the software's accuracy rate is, or if someone is still having to do the 'grunt' work.
