This is the CNN interview of the father of the boy and the boy who won't say the pledge until gays can marry. Impressive kid for 10.

17. and not just brave - but inspiring! how many other kids around the US are seeing him on TV &
thinking about things they believe in (which are nearly always progressive-minded), and what they can do to help.

I thank that boy for being so thoughtful to care about everyone! His parents must be extremely proud.

I wish there was a way DU could send him something since he's being verbally assaulted at school.

4. Jesus that John King is an idiot!
"Democracy took place! Gay marriage was voted down!"
Does this idiot realize that if the bill of rights was put up for a vote, it would fail miserably?

10. I have to say, the world certainly has changed
When I was 14 years-old, two female school teachers in my Western PA high school were leaving their positions and the area at the end of the school year because they were rumored to be a lesbian couple - no official accusation - just gossip. The ONLY defense of them anyone would speak is that the rumor was untrue and "how could anyone say something so terrible about ANYBODY?".

And now a ten-year-old in a small Arkansas town refuses to recite the pledge of Allegiance until gay and lesbian people are allowed to marry.

At least in some ways, the world certainly is becoming more open minded.

15. True. I am willing to bet he will be able to do the pledge in the next
ten years or so. The times they are a changing quite quick.

12. Agreed. Very impressive. Very brave. I'm a bit jealous.
A 10 that sort of thing would have never occurred to me. I hope this is a sign of good things to come from our youth.

18. EVENTUALLY.....
One day, when all of the right-wing haters,
and all of the like-thinking republican idiots
are DEAD....
Then maybe, we can have an enlightened society...
NOT until then, I'm afraid...!!!
But.... this kid is a good start...!!!!

13. I saw him on CNN this morning and I could just eat him up!
An elementary school social worker told me that profoundly gifted children have a much heightened sense of social justice. What a dear and brilliant child. He'll grow up to make the world a better place. Good parenting too, obviously.

16. Clearly this kid was brought up in europe - south america - australia-
basically somewhere other than the US. Could be wrong, glad to be wrong, but sounds to me like another Hills and Knowlton ring in.

look em up.

23. "atypical act of juvenile delinquency"?
I thought this was called civil disobedience

He's not a juvenile delinquent. He's a kid w/ a conscience and the guts to live up to what he believes.
