President Obama is in China this week, discussing (among other things) the global economy. These talks are important, as China currently holds the largest amount of US debt and is the US's top importer. Mike Papantonio appears on Fox Business's Happy Hour to talk about why this trip is important, and why its important to maintain a good relationship with China.

1. The closing sarcastic remark pretty much says it all...
"China the super power..." That's right geek. China has been the sleeping super power for the past 70+ years. Only recently have they been awake and playing in the capitalistic game that we invented.

Yes, we maybe have the best equipped military in the world. We certainly are paying for it. We certainly are exercising it around the world on lesser nations. But don't kid yourself. These Chinese could overrun us in a heartbeat if they wanted. They aren't flying prop jobs over there, and they sure as hell can make anything they put their minds to.

All we can hope for is that they open their markets to our goods. If they don't, then we need to close ours to theirs. Tit for tat. If they have tariffs on our goods, then we need tariffs on theirs in return. And they HAVE tariffs on many of our goods, and we have NONE on theirs.

We, as a nation, also need to quit consuming Chinese junk. If it isn't made in America, DON'T buy it. Pretty simple for those of us that can afford other material, or those of us that are able to avoid buying altogether.

WE MAKE NOTHING!! If you continue buying container ships full of 30 day guarantee Christmas light bulbs that are worthless in 31 days, then have a clue. We are sheeple...all of us. Buy American is what the old fart down on the corner shouts as he drives his 8 mpg De Soto down the street in a cloud of blue smoke.

2. Did I hear Mike talk about buy-side economics??
That was so down to earth and simple that the repugs had a very difficult time coming up with ways to insult him. Though it sure seemed like they wanted to try.

As much as I would love to never see a "Made In China" label foretelling the short life of the product I'm about to purchase, I think Mike is correct in his assertion that we need to maintain good relations with China and make it clear to them that a strong, vibrant US economy is also in their best interest. That's a principle that could go a long way across the global economy.

Hmmm, imagine that. Billions of people with money to spend. Why the possibilities are enormous. That's a hard concept to fathom for those who live and die in cut-throat, competitive, cannibalistic-style capitalism. I wonder why? Could it have to do with the fact that for that to happen, they'd actually have to care about the welfare and well-being of other people? That's quite a stretch for people who pride themselves on their ability to make the "tough decision" to let others suffer so they can prosper.

3. wrong on almost every point
The us has more trade imbalanaces than any, and i mean ANY OTHER NATION - your protectionism is what has made you strong.
Seriously, how can you be so naive.

Further the Chinese are not 70+ years of dormancy - they have been the worlds most powerful nation for well over 5000 years - got that ! They were the centre of world trade uptil the end of the 19th century, the US has been dominant for no more than 50 years - basically post second world war. China for 5,000 years.

The US has been reliant on the most biased, corrupt trade imbalances backed by military threats, riding entirely on the back of third world debt and implicitly relying on despots and nefarious dictators to hand over the soveriegn wealth of nations along with crippling debt - beyond that the US has relied entirely on slave labour and sweat shops for the DODGEY products, along with the only other product you produce military weapons - wow. The only product America has produced worth a pinch was their car industry - After the Japanese YOU nuked them, they came back and took this from you within 20 years. Now your economy is somewhere around the ancient Mesopotamians relative to the Japs.

Best of your luck - because you sure as hell don't deserve it, you sure as shit are going to need it.

For once you guys are going to compete on a level playing field, and for once you are going to come up against a worthy adversary - and bugger me - you are going to be walked all over.

See ya.

Your entire wealth is derived from the backs of other nations, weather you are stealing their wealth (United Fruits, Congo, South America etc) their oil - Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Iran - or you are selling crap to people all over the world with your insidious products - starting wuith macdonalds.

the us wealth us a direct result of others - show SOME respect.
