Frances Kissling and Jill Filipovic talk about the Stupak amendment to the health care bill, what prochoice activists can do about it, and why it's essential to cover abortion.

2. That speaker in the last few seconds says it best.
If we are going to provide health care then it has to include health care for women, and we can't just exclude health care for the lower half of a woman's bodies as if that part of their bodies doesn't exist.

These exceptions that are being shoved into this bill are treating women's health care as if women aren't fully people.

This bill treats women as if parts of their bodies can be harmlessly physically removed and put away somewhere at home, where they don't need to be considered or treated medically. Or worse, this bill treats parts of women's bodies as if they don't really exist biologically and aren't of any medical concern.

Can you imagine if this bill said to men, "Your penis and everything connected to it internally is not biological as far as we are concerned, and has no medical importance in any way that we will consider. As far as we are concerned, these are not part of your anatomy. If you have any issues or concerns in this area, deal with it yourself at home."
