She is part of the institutional disrespect for an accused's constitutional rights.

26. Don't count on that. The feds are investigating this.
From time to time I debate police crimes and corruption with police officer, lawyers, and laymen. We use stories in the news as the basis of our internet debates. We've had cases where local IAD and the FBI have conducted simultaneous investigations. The local IAD exonerated the officers. The FBI arrested them and tried them in federal court. In one case an officer that was robbing drug dealers and reselling their drugs while in uniform and on duty. The feds busted him and he got 300 years. Most of that time came from mandatory minimums from having his service weapon on him while he was stealing (armed robbery) and reselling the drugs. The feds don't play when it comes to corruption of public officers. Those guys are going down hard.

48. She seems..
to have no control over her courtroom....this is the story.

How many more puppet judges do you suppose preside on the bench in that county.

Everybody in that court room saw what was going on except the defense attorney.

The nonchalant attitude indicates this is standard procedure.

I am curious who broke the 'code of silence' and leaked this tape.

Security tapes are almost never available to the general public.Especially ones that cast a negative light on the business or organization who 'owns' the camera system.

I practiced in Washington State where some of the courtroom proceedings were videotaped. It saved the costs of a court reporter being present at all proceedings.

shut down the people in that county who are clearly corrupt, and let those who aren't manage, because to see a deputy walk right up and do that is sickening, and worse, the judge YELLS at the attorney for being upset, and then the sicko leader of them all calls it "appropriate". barf.

15. Outrageous. More on the story: Officer Adam Stoddard is facing contempt charges
http://www.azcentral.com/arizonarepublic/local/articles/2009/11/06/20091106mcsocourtdocs1106.html

Words made officer who took papers suspicious

88 comments by JJ Hensley - Nov. 6, 2009 12:00 AM
The Arizona Republic

"Going to," "steal" and "money."

Those four words, grouped in the same sentence, prompted a Maricopa County sheriff's detention officer to remove documents from a defense attorney's file last month, according to court testimony Thursday.

Officer Adam Stoddard testified that a handful of factors contributed to his decision to position himself behind the defendant, Antonio Solis Lozano, during Lozano's Oct. 19 sentencing hearing. And while Stoddard was there, his eyes "glazed over" a document with the four words that caught his attention.

Stoddard said the fact that Lozano had numerous papers that court security had not searched concerned him. People in the back of the courtroom who were there to see Lozano also made Stoddard suspicious, according to his testimony.

"It was a totality of circumstances," Stoddard said.

Thursday's hearing was a continuation of a hearing from last week to determine whether Stoddard was acting in good faith or was in contempt when he took the documents. Superior Court Judge Gary Donahoe said in the hearing last week that he had reviewed the documents and determined they posed no security threat.

The judge should be fired immediately, if nothing else. Her contempt for the law is palpable. Do I assume these are right-wingers? This is how today's conservatives routinely act. Laws don't apply to them.

Yet Arpaio keeps getting reelected because of pink undie/green bologna gimmickry.

PS: I lived there for quite a few years, and know the whole story personally.

I don't live there anymore for a reason. This kind of reason.

Arpaio is a crime boss, running a personal fiefdom outside of any law or justice. He tortures, murders, frames -- whatever it takes to continue his iron grip. Right out of an old movie.

the lawyer having learned of it and having confronted this kangaroo court who then tried to justify this calumny of deceit. Think of all the instances where these things are not seen or exposed. Thank you Rick Sanchez. This judge, the sheriffs and the deputies involved, should be removed in disgrace and brought up on felony charges. Our justice system has become a disgrace and is the laughing stock of the world; Has turned into a fascist organization and is no longer culpable for its blatant disregard of the constitution and the laws of the land. The excellent Rick Sanchez is the only (one of two) journalist on CNN; Which is normally just a hypnotic drone of corporate propaganda, drivel and blather. We are now living in Russia in the good ol' days of the KGB with the exception in our case that the corporations are the politburo.

Edited on Tue Nov-10-09 12:33 PM by Gman
Defendents would be acquited because what they did was somehow seen as justifiable because the murderer was somehow provoked into killing the Black man who was with a white woman. Justice was not being served in these courts so it took the DOJ and federal courts to come in and do the job. It will be the same thing in Maricopa County. The corruption and disregard for civil rights there has been going on for so long that it will take the feds to fix it.

In all my Dead following travels, I never saw cops yanking people out of the crowd during the show for smoking a joint - until I visited Phoenix (the show was at some race track). It was surreal.

I had some goofy idea that things were much more laid back out west. The site of county cops cuffing people during a concert set me straight.

41. I have a theory...because the paper taken was, itself, such a small thing...
If the defense attorney is new to the county, perhaps this is a kind of initiation rite. The sheriff and his deputies just want her to know that they can do pretty much any damn thing they want....so they stage this little operation in full view of the judge...who, of course, does nothing to stop them or punish them. If I were starting up a practice there, I would seriously rethink the whole thing.
I HOPE that the feds will clean the place up.
