1. I didn't know if that was going to be OUR national anthem or THEIR national anthem

I mean, when she says "gave proof through the night that our flag was still there" we should all remember that in the War of 1812 it was the Canadians who were threatening our flag.

Actually, I'm more offended by the national anthem being performed on Fox. It's like eating steak tartar prepared by slave labor.

2. Let me be the first (hopefully) to say: Isn't it Ironic?
Yeah, I really do think...
:D
For a Canadian to sing the anthem? (is she a naturalized US citizen?)
Still, a decent job for a hard to sing song- not too over-the-top melodramatics (the fireworks took care of that)

As a soon-to-be Permanent Canadian Resident (we "land" the day after Thanksgiving, but won't move until we can sell our house and find jobs), it's kind of cool, sort of like Jimi at Woodstock (OK, not THAT cool). :)

3. I was really surprised by the "not too over-the-top melodramatics"
Before listening, I was expecting the exact opposite. All in all, a pretty "traditional" performance.

4. It bugs me when people really play around with the phrasing
and go over the top with the anthem. "Red Glare" and "Land of the Free" are dramatic enough, and if sung well, should bring chills to the spine. When singers add two minutes to the song with over-embellishments, I go batty.

Alanis did a good job. She has a pleasant voice.
